Mental Mission and a Question for my readers…

April 6th, 2009 · 6 Comments · Uncategorized

Your mental mission this week is to prepare to make yogurt next Monday.  Sometimes things like this take some getting used to.  Find a few glass jars (spaghetti sauce jars or Mason quart-sized are great).  Think about how much yogurt your family currently eats and the waste generated by the little plastic cups.  Trust me that it’s easy to make your own!  If that sounds daunting, don’t worry – I’ll have a few baby step choices for those who aren’t ready.  But I’m giving you something to think about this week so maybe you can get over the mental hurdle of “do-it-yourself”.

Now for the request for input:  I’m notoriously long-winded.  I’ve noticed that my posts, especially Monday Missions, can get awfully long.  There’s just so much to share!

I have a question about how I’m including recipes, which is generally to link to them on a separate page rather than imbedding them in the text of the post.  How do people like this?  Are you visiting the recipes?  Would it be better to put new recipes right in the text or make them a separate post completely on the same day or the next day?  Right now they’re “pages”, which means they’re on my site but they’ll never come to your inbox or RSS feed if you have a subscription.

Thanks for any input!

yogurt.. our family loves it and I would like to try my hand at it, can’t wait. I would like to say thank you for these Monday Missions. I am having so much fun and the anticipation of the missions and what will be coming up is half the fun.

As for your question, I greatly enjoy just going to your recipe page and going down the list..and trust me I have! In fact, I have printed out quite a few and put them in my kitchen notebook because I am a hard copy gal. I cut and paste the recipes and try and fit more than one on a page but it is much easier for me to go to the main recipe page and look for the recipe than to search posts. I would think for new readers especially who never got your feeds they might have a hard time finding them if they were in the posts alone.
Just my two cents. Thanks for asking.

I would love it if you would add a link so that I can print the recipes and not have to print your webpage header with the recipe (thus reducing the amount of color printer ink used).

We love yogurt here. It’s a cinch to make and so nourishing. The flavors are much better in homemade yogurt.

To answer your question though: I think it’s best to keep recipes as a separate post. Of course, that’s how I have my blog set up. One feed is for thoughts on food (http://nourishedkitchen.com) while the recipes section is set up on a subdomain (http://nourishedkitchen.com/recipes). Recipes don’t get too many comments, but it keeps the blog tidy and organized.

Oh, that is absolutely on my list of things I want to learn how to do! The only way on my end is to create a PDF file, which someday I will learn. For now, please save your color ink by highlighting the text with your mouse, pressing Ctrl + C to “copy”, and then open a Word document and “Ctrl + V” to paste. That way you can print only text without anything else. You can also add to or delete my little comments if you like clean recipes! Thank you for the note!! :) Katie
