Mental Mission: The Cans in Your Cupboard

April 20th, 2009 · 1 Comment · Uncategorized

Mental Mission:  I want to challenge you this week to pay attention to what you use your can opener for.  Which meals are dependent on canned food?  What’s in those cans?  Do you know anything about the nutrition of what’s in the can?

Read a label while you cook.  It’s enlightening!

Ponder: is there an alternative for this can?  Might it be (a) less expensive or (b) more nutritious?

And make sure you recycle those cans while you’re pondering.

Next week we’re talking tomatoes…and cans.  I’ll help you sort through your cupboards and divide the wheat from the chaff…the sheep from the goats…I mean, the canned goods from the canned bads.  Have a blessed week in God’s presence!

I’ve pretty much eliminated most canned cooking staples except tomatoes. However, I worry about disaster supplies. I need to find a way to balance food storage and health. I’m all for fresh, but what if I had to go a week (months?) without a trip to the grocery? What if we lost power for a week or two?
