I just wanted to tell you that the family I stayed with in Russia (I’m a student of Russian) had a microwave! I also saw some there in the shops. So I don’t think they are banned… But they don’t seem to be that common either.

My microwave is currently sitting in my kitchen unplugged but I'm going to move it to the basement today. I never use it and this just gives me more good reasons to get rid of it! I got rid of my microwave about 6 years ago. It took me about a week or 2 to get used to not having it. Do I miss it now? Absolutley not! My family doesn’t miss it either. It is almost just as quick to heat something in a toaster oven or stove top. I have an air-popper to make popcorn. Even my children say that food tastes better when not heated in a microwave.
Our parents lived without microwaves, so I think we can too! Try it!
