Mental Mission: You and Your Grains

June 8th, 2009 · 1 Comment · Uncategorized

Welcome! Kitchen Stewardship is dedicated to balancing God's gifts of time, health, earth and money. If you feel called to such a mission, read more at Mission, Method, and Mary and Martha Moments. If you like what you see, please sign up for a free email subscription or grab my reader feed. You can also follow me on Twitter.

Your mental mission for this week is to consider your relationship with whole grains.

  • Bread:  are you a white bread fan, 100% whole wheat, or somewhere in between?  Do you know what “wheat bread” means?
  • Read ingredients label on your breads, cereals, other grain products.  Do you know what you’re reading? Would you like to? (I’m here to help next week!)
  • How many different kinds of grains (wheat, oat, barley, rice, quinoa, millet, spelt, Kamut, etc.) do you eat on a regular basis?
  • What is a healthy grain?

Next week we’re tackling whole grains as an honorable mention Super Food and oats specifically (a full-fledged Super Food).  We’ll also come back to grains later in the year with a whole month of challenges.  For now, gear up to learn to read bread packages and use oats well!

Have you entered the Bugaloo baby shoe giveaway yet?  It’s easy to do and a great prize.  Even if you don’t have little ones, I think this would be a fabulous baby shower gift to add to your stash…  Click here to leave a comment as your entry.

I’m getting in contact (trying to at least) with Michigan moms who are out there blogging about eating healthy and raising healthy children. On behalf of the Michigan Apple Committee, I’m trying to get families on board with Michigan apples. Since the state’s economy is dying, I encourage you to look into buying Michigan apples for your family or at least drop by our website: michiganapples.com.
    Thanks!
