Welcome to the weekly rotating Make it From Scratch Carnival! I’m pleased to host this week; it’s fun to be able to feature some non-food bloggers and see what others are making this week. Take a tour of some very talented, creative people:
Editor’s Pick:
I just love the basis of Hip Organic Mama, that once we have kids, life changes and certain things (like what we eat) become suddenly, incredibly important. Annie is a woman after my own heart, and her Vegetarian Bolognese & Kids ate it up! is a recipe she made up with food on hand in a pinch – I say you can’t get any more “from scratch” than that! Love it! Thanks for entering the carnival, Annie!
Do-it-Yourself Crafts:
Kimanh presents The Hippest Magnets in Town – How To posted at Oh!! I Like that!! A totally cute idea with incredible artwork and detailed presentation. I would never be able to make these so classy, but you must visit just to drool!
Jaralyn Salangsang presents Simple Cupcake Pedestal Tutorial posted at Creative Abubot. A fancy and well-photo-documented how-to for these extravagant decorations:

Yummy Meals:
Make it from Scratch presents Pretty, Simple, and Economical posted at Make It From Scratch. One of the most unique potluck dishes I’ve ever seen, here are instructions to stuff a garden variety daylily and put it on a plate. Beautiful, and, so I’m told, edible!

FishMama presents Life as Mom: Asian Chicken and Noodle Salad posted at Life as Mom. A super-healthy salad that could be right from a gourmet restaurant.

Scott @ ebabble presents Makin’ Bacon posted at Scott @ eBabble. Not something everyone can just do in their home, but if you want nitrite-free bacon, check out this post!

Caterina Christakos presents Fried Artichoke Recipe posted at Orlando Restaurant Reviews. I have a friend who always orders any dish with artichokes when she eats out. If you want to make one “in”, check this recipe out.
Joanna presents Baked Ziti posted at OneKrustyMama. A simple recipe to put on your family’s go-to list.
Sweet Treats:
Abi presents Cherry Coke Salad posted at Lighter Side. I’ve totally made something similar before, and it’s SO yummy and refreshing, perfect for a summer picnic or get-together.
Angie presents Secret Ingredient Cinnamon Bread posted at Many Little Blessings. Angie says: “My picky kids loved my “cinnamon bread,” and finally one day said, “What’s your secret ingredient, Mom?” I told them I really did have a secret ingredient — it was zucchini. They were definitely surprised that my “Cinnamon Bread” was actually zucchini bread.”
FishMama presents Good (& Cheap) Eats: Old-Fashioned Lemonade posted at Good (& Cheap) Eats. Very timely for summer cool-down fun!

My submission is a Walnut-Oat Pie Crust, a healthy (and tasty!) alternative to the trans-fat laden graham cracker crust.

Kate presents Our Red House: Raspberry and Chunky Chocolate Muffins posted at Our Red House. Raspberries and White Chocolate – this gal is really speaking my language!

Jenn presents Yummy! Brownies in Mini Loaf Pans posted at Beautiful Calling. What a cute way to serve a traditional, delicious dessert!

Make Your Kitchen Staples from Scratch:
Magpie presents Make Homemade Flour Tortillas posted at Smiling Country Ranch Life. Super photos and easy step-by-step directions, and such a frugal thing to make homemade!
Kelly the Kitchen Kop presents Homemade Mayonnaise Recipe That Tastes Great FINALLY! posted at Kelly the Kitchen Kop. Kelly says, ” I was on a quest to find a homemade mayo recipe that tasted as good as Helmanns (the only kind I liked!), but one that isn’t full of the junk Helmanns has in it. It took a while, but I finally did it!” I am definitely trying this one as soon as I have some leftover meat for sandwiches!

Laura Coppinger presents Making Homemade Vanilla Extract (aka? Why Laura Bought a Gallon of Vodka) posted at Heavenly Homemakers. I’m amazed that Laura made a whole gallon, but she used it for Christmas gifts (and she explains where to buy so many vanilla beans in bulk!).

Tips:
Alvina Lopez presents 100 Useful Tips, Tools, and Tutorials for Job-Seekers over 45 posted at Management Degree. One hundred is a LOT of tips, so if you fit the description, this is a helpful post with lots of links to resources.
