Mental mission: Your Relationship with Salads

July 16th, 2009 · No Comments · Uncategorized

In our family, we eat a salad at (almost) every dinner.  It’s important to me to have salad fixin’s available for easy access.  I’ve read that people who eat a salad before their meal eat fewer calories and less main course than those who don’t.

This week as you plan, prepare and enjoy your meals, think about your relationship to salad.

  • Do you eat salads?
  • What purpose do they serve in your meal/diet?
  • What fixins go IN the salad?  Does that add to or detract from the nutrient density of the dish?
  • What dressing goes ON the salad?  Does that add to or detract from the nutrients of the dish?
  • Are you ready to branch out and expand your horizons with salads?
  • And…where else do you get your greens, other than salads (especially if you’re not a salad fan)?

Next week’s super food is spinach, understudy in one of my fav summer soup recipes this week and star of one of our family’s go-to meals next week.  We’ll also talk soy, but just a little.

Have a marvelous week being conscious in your kitchen!
