…Your birthday loot is as follows:
- gift certificate to meat store for local, mostly free range or pastured, sometimes organic meats (bring on the nitrate-free bacon!)
- gift certificate to favorite spice store
- Pampered Chef baking stone
- cast iron skillet
- silicone mat to cover cookie sheets
- natural dishwasher detergent from Trader Joe’s
I kid you not. Oh, how I LOVE it when people get you what you really want!
And…you know you’re a blogger when your husband gets you an external hard drive for your photos and a laptop rest with a fan so your computer doesn’t get ovverheated. Sweet!

LOL, what a fun birthday stash!

Love it! I got a big cast iron griddle for my birthday last year, awesome gift that I use all the time!

Is it really true about cast iron that you can’t use it on flat ceramic top stoves? I purchased one last year and realized after I can’t use my cast iron on it and I wonder why!

Jean, I wish I could help, but I have a lovely gas stove and not a clue about ceramic. Google it! Best of luck, Katie

Which meat store?
I have silicone mats, but they don’t fit my cookie sheets!

Van Ball’s on Plainfield. My silicone mat doesn’t fit my smaller and medium cookie sheet, and it has a problem with browning on the edge when it hangs off a bit…I’m thinking I should speak to the company and see if that’s a health problem! We get most of our meat at Grassfields Farm in Coopersville, but Van Ball’s has really great local meats (I asked a lot of questions the first time I went in!) when I want something fast.

Thanks — I’ll check them out! I stopped in Heeron Farms (not sure if that’s the right spelling) on Plainfield today and was surprised to find that all their meat was frozen.

Yep, and it’s not organic or grass-fed at Heffron, so the only thing(s) going there are the local aspect and the no hormones/antibiotics.

I love it!!
Happy Birthday!!
And I absolutely love my baking stone and cast iron skillet! I have been perfecting making eggs in it . . .
I hope your birthday was wonderful! Cheers to a New Year!
Best,
Sarah

Hi. I came to visit from Homemaker Barbi’s and enjoyed looking at your site.
I was interested to hear you got the laptop pad with a fan. How has that been working? I have been eyeing those but wasn’t sure how well they worked.
Thanks

Works great for me! Mine was about $20 and plugs into the USB port on the computer, so it’s only on when the computer is on.
