My daughter knows over 60 signs, and she will be 15 months old tomorrow. It’s exciting to parent her through this phase between not knowing enough to assert an opinion and learning enough words to make it clear.
We use a lot of food signs and highchair talk, but our signs also often take us out of the kitchen. Join me today at Heavenly Homemakers to read more about our experience and get easy tips on how you can start using baby signs with your 6 to 18-month-old today!
I LOVE love love baby signs. This post is entered in Things I Love Thursday at The Diaper Diaries and Hooked on Fridays at Hooked on Houses.

Do you have any books you recommend on the subject?

Yes! Please tell where you learned the signs because I can’t find any good books!

Michelle and Mareth,
I’ll also teach 10 basic signs in next week’s post.
The book I have at home is called “Baby Signs: How to Talk with Your Baby Before Your Baby Can Talk”. It’s written by Linda Acredolo and Susan Goodwyn, who I believe founded the baby signs movement. It’s an easy read with lots of background and science of baby signs. Really, and I’ll explain this in part two of the guest post next week, I learned most of my signs from the Signing Time video series, which used to play on PBS. Try your library for those! (Mareth, I have them mostly recorded on DVD now if you’d want to borrow

I used some signs with my son when he was little. I have forgotten about it with my newest but I think I will start again.

I have this book and it is great. I’ve been slack in teaching all the signs, but we use a couple ones in particular to meal time as well. It has really helped make this time a little more pleasant! Great post! Thanks!

Katie,
I also started out with the Signing Time videos and thought they were fantastic. My girls slill LOVE to watch them. Another book that I found at the library that was helpful was Teaching Your Baby to Sign (Byer). Great Post (as usual)!!!!
