Two Little Notes: Swagbucks and the Make it from Scratch Carnival

September 21st, 2009 · No Comments · Uncategorized

If you’ve been around the blogosphere for very long, you’re probably already using Swagbucks.  I’m a bit behind the curve.  I’m hoping that a few of you out there are thinking, “What’s Swagbucks?” and I’ve piqued your interest.

Swagbucks is a system that gives free stuff just for collecting “Swagbucks”.  You do this by searching through their site (which is powered by Google and Ask.com) and finding promotion codes other places, like Twitter, Facebook, etc.  You can trade in Swagbucks for gift cards or items like school supplies or DVDs.  For example, with my 54 Swagbucks (that took a bit over a month to accrue), I could get a $5 Amazon gift card for 45 SB, or a $25 Restaurants.com card for 40 SB, or even plant a tree for 15 SB.  I can’t decide!  :)

There’s also a toolbar you can download, and this month it will give you one Swagbuck every day.  A quick 10 SB if you start today!

I just use the toolbar to run all my searches (for that great KS research you all benefit from), and it doesn’t take any more time or effort to earn swagbucks.  Free stuff is great!  And I have some free Swagbucks to get you started.

Here’s how you can sign up:

  1. Click this link to be a new member.  You’ll get 3 Swagbucks to start you out.
  2. Enter the code “kitchenstew” (case-sensitive) for TWO EXTRA Swagbucks just because I love you! (Only valid through this Friday, 9/25, and only for new members, so hurry!)
  3. I’d recommend using the toolbar to help you remember to Swagsearch, or you can set your search in the upper right of your browser to default to swagbucks.

The more friends you invite, the more Swagbucks you’ll get.  I don’t really know how this works, because I don’t have any friends who have signed up under me…but maybe you can show me how it works (*wink wink*)!

You do have to deal with more ads on the Swagsearch results.  I’ve gotten used to them.

Note number two:  I’m hosting the Make it from Scratch Carnival here next Tuesday! I did it once before here, and I’m looking forward to reading all the interesting stuff people share.  If you have something on your blog that is made from scratch (cooking, sewing, crafts, anything!) you can enter here before Sunday 9/27 and see your link next week at Kitchen Stewardship.  (The carnival rotates every week, so if you miss this week’s deadline, you’ll just be included in the next carnival at a different blog.)  You can see this week’s edition tomorrow at It’s Frugal Being Green.
