Advent Daily Dose: What does the Advent Wreath Mean?

December 9th, 2009 · 2 Comments · Prayerful Kitchen

Advent Daily Dose ButtonMary Reed Newland explains the symbolism of the Advent Wreath for you to meditate on today:

  1. Circle of wreath = eternity and never-endingness of God
  2. Evergreen = eternal life and never-changingness of God
  3. Purple = penance
  4. White candles = divine innocence
  5. Rose candle = joy

Your thought to ponder:  what are the similarities and differences between the purple and penance of Lent and that of Advent?

Find all the Advent Daily Dose reflections here.
