I love Christmas music. Not only does it fill my heart with joy to listen to my 4-year-old son learn the words and watch my 18-month-old daughter boogie to the beat, but the tunes of Christmas songs are so rich with memory that reminisce seems to drip from the pages of the hymn book. The lyrics are always those of hope and joy, and you can listen to the radio without having to worry about the morals of the world infiltrating your home.
This week’s Advent Daily Dose will be a series of reflections on one Christmas song: “Away in a Manger”.
Away in a Manger
Jesus Christ was born in solitude, away from the crowds, just as He sought time alone during his public ministry as an adult. Granted, He was always found, whether by shepherds and kings or a crowd hungry for more miracles, but Jesus certainly showed us the value of time away.
Let us take time alone this day, or this week, to find a place to be away. Away from the hustle and bustle of the Christmas to-do lists, away from the stress of navigating human relationships, away from the temptations of the world. Most importantly, find a time to be away with Jesus. Find Him alone as the shepherds did and honor Him, show Him the clean place you have created in your heart where you want Him to reside forevermore. Nestle together in the stable, warm with the satisfaction that your God will always be with you, no matter how far away you may feel.

Spot on timing, Katie. I sang Away in a Manger last night to calm the toddler who didn’t take a nap yesterday and was too tired to sleep well even with an early bedtime. (Except I didn’t really think of it the other 3 times she was up after I went to bed.) She calls it “Asleep on the Hay” though. :>) Looking forward to the rest of the week!

The mcklinky isn’t up right now, because of technical delays, but I’d be delighted to add your post in.
Thanks!
