It's Sunshine Awareness Week at Kitchen Stewardship! I'm burned on half my body as a result of testing natural sunscreens...be sure to check all this week's posts for the scoop on what works, what doesn't, and when (if?) we need sunblock at all, along with over $400 in sun protection giveaways. Check out the natural sunblock review for the scoop.

I’ve mentioned in passing before the importance of an organic mattress and/or sheets, because you spend so much time in your beds and most mattresses are treated with flame retardant chemicals that will offgas you all night long.
Pajamas are another, similar issue. Children in particular should have PJs that aren’t treated, and there are only two ways to get them without chemicals: organic jammies or the tight kind. That’s why organic PJs were on both my kids’ Christmas wish lists this year.
It makes me so sad that I can’t find fuzzy jams with feet for my kids that don’t make me nervous, and that organic mattresses and sheets tend to cost so much! Yes, this is mostly a food blog, but I’m concerned with both the environment and the whole person as well. When I’m not cooking or on the computer, I do spend some time in my bed myself!
My interest was piqued when I received an email from ShopNBC asking me to check out their shop to see what I could find, and I saw these organic sheets on clearance for under $50:
I thought this might be something to spend your Christmas money on as you settle in for a long winter’s nap…
Of course, we’re wrapping up flannel sheets for Buddy Boy that I picked up on clearance after last Christmas. Here’s hoping/praying that they’re not sprayed with anything toxic!
Have a very merry and Blessed Christmas and Christmas season! KS will be a little bit quiet over the next week or so as I enjoy time with my family. You can look for a little teaser post with a preview of coming events, and be sure to check out the Skoy cloth giveaway, a good fit for next Monday’s Mission of decreasing cleaning disposables.

Disclosure: It was a big decision about whether or not to allow a post to have a sponsor. I don’t want to feel like Kitchen Stewardship is all about advertising or making money, and I want to preserve the trust I’ve built with my readers. My husband pointed out that I’m offering all my content for free, and the readers shouldn’t mind an ad or such post or two since they don’t have to pay for KS. Well. I wouldn’t write a post about gold watches or fashion clothing just for bucks around here, but when I found a product that I might recommend anyway, this is the result. $50 is pretty cheap for organic sheets. And this post is sponsored.

I think it’s totally fine as long as it’s not filling up my feedreader with spam!
We got our kids nice PJs for Christmas too, the Hanna Andersson thermals in 2 pieces, which are still cut tight but a little stretchier and even fit over cloth diapers.
