January 8th, 2010 · 18 Comments · Real Food Face-Off

It's Sunshine Awareness Week at Kitchen Stewardship! I'm burned on half my body as a result of testing natural sunscreens...be sure to check all this week's posts for the scoop on what works, what doesn't, and when (if?) we need sunblock at all, along with over $400 in sun protection giveaways. Check out the natural sunblock review for the scoop.

Welcome to the Real Food Face-Off, where bloggers will have head-to-head showdowns about Real Food and the way we eat.

Over the next many weeks, you’ll have the opportunity to meet over two dozen incredible bloggers and hear their thoughts on Real Food.

There are those of us who, like me, have rather recently jumped into the Real Food movement with both feet while keeping our heads above water, those who have been fully immersed for a number of years, and others just testing the waters and making changes one baby step at a time.

Some of us write about food all the time, while others only tackle their palates when they are so inspired.

We are men and women, parents and grandparents, human beings trying to do the best with our food…and willing to share our thoughts with the world.

We are the 26 bloggers participating in the Real Food Face-Off, and we have a lot to say.

The Format

Although that sounds like a competition, it’s really just a fun way to “meet” other bloggers, share ideas, and hear others’ stories and experiences about how they came to eat the way they do.  The goal is mainly personal anecdote and opinion, but these folks will have a lot to teach you all the same.

Twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays, you’ll have the opportunity to meet two bloggers in a head-to-head match up.

The Questions

Everyone will answer these questions:

  1. How do you describe the way you eat when someone asks you to define your food?
  2. What was/is your major incentive for living a real food lifestyle?

After that, you’ll hear their 5 (or so) best answers to the following list of questions:

  1. If you only had energy for ONE make-from-scratch food, what would it be? Is your preference for taste or health?
  2. What food was your favorite that you no longer eat (or shouldn’t eat)?
  3. What’s your favorite real/traditional food?
  4. What was the hardest transition to make to real food?
  5. What’s something you remain afraid to try?
  6. What’s next on your list of changes to make?
  7. List your top 3 baby steps to move from a Standard American Diet to Real Food.
  8. What is the worst food (or “food”) a person could possibly put into their systems?
  9. If you had only $20 to spend in a week on real food, what would you buy and what would you make?
  10. What does “eating healthy” mean to you?
  11. Name the top food scoring highest on both the nutritional and budget scale? (i.e., best health benefits for the lowest cost)
  12. Biggest drawback of real food lifestyle?
  13. What’s the most creative thing you do to make life easier in the kitchen?
  14. How important is organic food?
  15. What do you refuse to buy at a grocery store that you do eat from its source?
  16. When eating out, how do make your menu decision (fav “out” food, anything you avoid)?
  17. Best book recommendations?
  18. Number one tip you tell your blog readers about eating healthy foods:

Thanks to DCR Design for the fab logo design.
