Mental Mission: Your Cleaning Evaluation (& I’m going to be on a talk show!)

January 11th, 2010 · 2 Comments · Cleaning

Psssssst! Can you keep a secret? You could win a big ol' "green" lunch packing giveaway package in September and a Nutrimill grain mill later in the fall just for sticking around. Oh, and some great whole grain bread recipes and soaking grains research coming right up! Sign up to get all the KS goodness by entering your email address here:

You can also find me on Facebook and Twitter.

I knew for quite some time that my dishwasher detergent and my laundry soap were my two problem areas when it came to green cleaning.  I was always on the lookout for eco-friendly options.  I’m thrilled to finally feel like I have all my ducks in a row in those areas, but it took most of last year to experiment, ask questions, and find something that worked and was in my price range (cheap!).  It helped to pinpoint the specific areas I wanted to change and set goals to find possible solutions.

Your mental mission, just a little nugget to think about this week, is to evaluate your cleaning. What areas might you need a little “green” boost?  We’ll be making cleaning resolutions next Monday, so come armed with the knowledge of what you need to change.  If you want to do more than just think about it, start browsing for brands or homemade products that will fit your needs.

Two Notes – the Good News and the Bad News

Good News:  I’m going to be on a blog radio show tonight! Find me on Blog Talk Radio from 8-9 p.m. EST, Monday, January 11th.  I’ll be talking with James Talmage Stevens, author of Making the Best of Basics: Family Preparedness Guide.  You can listen in here.  If you’re too late, you can also listen to or download back episodes using the same link.  UPDATE:  It was fun and I was even asked back!  :)

I’ve been perusing Stevens’ book this week, and although I haven’t given much thought to being prepared for an emergency storage-wise, I’m thinking it will inspire some upcoming Monday Missions on stockpiling the basics for “just in case”.  The book both guides you through preparing your home to be without the rest of the world for a while if a disaster would keep you homebound, and gives a lot of healthy recipes and cooking tips that are quite sound for everyday practicality.  I love the idea of going back to the basics.  It’s very much my style, and I’m looking forward to talking with the author on the “radio” tonight.  I don’t really know what to expect, so I hope it goes well!  (If you click on the book title and buy one, you’ll be helping me out as an affiliate of Making the Best of Basics.  Thanks!)

Bad News:  I have no idea what is going on with the comments. They are currently broken.  :(   If you want to enter the PlanetBox giveaway, you can email me your entries.  (kitchenstew at gmail.com)  I’m hoping to get this fixed ASAP, but I spent an hour on it already and am no closer to a solution than before.  Thank you to those of you who gave me a heads-up about the problem!

UPDATE:  Woo hoo and PHEW!  Hubby helped me fix it…I sort of broke everything by trying to write some html where I really don’t have the expertise.  Ah, humility, how I love you so!  ;)   Comments are back on!

I’m looking for a green toilet bowl cleaner and disinfectant wipe replacement. I’m really interested in what you have to say!

I also gave you an award on my blog. Thanks for all you do. I’ve learned so much from you this past fall.

I hope the radio show went well!

Thanks for letting us know ahead of time about the Talk Show. You did a great job – friendly, down-to-earth, and intelligent. Your enthusiasm was very evident, and I think James was impressed and enjoyed talking with you. The networking will be very helpful to you and your website, and it sounds like he will be a great resource to you, and you to him. I’m curious about the “groats” and the sprouting of the beans.

    Congratulations.
