If you’re looking for an easy way to complete your Monday Mission of greening up one cleaner, here’s a chance to win some natural laundry detergent and all-purpose cleaner – double your mission!
Start by reading my Charlie’s Soap review for the low-down on why you want to try this product. One winner will receive the prize package pictured above: an 80-load bag of Charlie’s Soap Laundry Powder (that’ll last you a while!), a bottle of the All-Purpose Cleaner, and a bonus reusable bag for groceries or laundry. (Value: $25.95)
HOW TO ENTER: Leave a comment telling me your green cleaners resolution, whether it has to do with Charlie’s Soap or not. (If you receive KS via email, you will need to click over to the site to leave a comment.) If you’d like more chances, obtain extra entries by doing the following.
GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED. THANKS FOR ENTERING!
NEW SYSTEM: I’m sad to announce that I’m going to have to go with what most other bloggers do instead of saving you time like I usually do: please leave all your entries in separate comments so it’s easier for me to count. I’ve grown “big” enough that it’s taking too long for me to sort through the comments by hand (thus the awful delay on the Planetbox winner!).
- Mandatory entry: your green cleaners resolution.
- Check out the Charlie’s Soap website and tell me one thing you learned. (Like, maybe I should have read the FAQs myself.)
- Subscribe in a reader or via email to Kitchen Stewardship (or tell me if you already do).
- If you have a blog or website, post about this giveaway linking back to this post.
- What’s your favorite Monday Mission or Recipe? Just tell me in the comment and I’ll give you an extra entry.
- Follow me on Twitter AND Tweet about the giveaway (just click the button at the top of this post).
- Stumble or Digg this post (you can use the “Share This!” icon at the bottom of the post). (What is Stumble?)
- Email 5 friends (who don’t already read Kitchen Stewardship) about the giveaway.
- Stumble or Digg your favorite post or recipe at Kitchen Stewardship.
- Just for fun: What’s your favorite blog other than Kitchen Stewardship and what is its topic?
Be sure to tell me everything you did in your comment. There are a possible 10 entries! If you can handle completing all 10, I’ll give you a bonus entry just for being perseverant (but tell me if you do in your comment so I’m not up counting all night). If you don’t have a blog, I’ll still give you the bonus if you complete the other 9. I still trust the honor system. Just be honest about what you’ve done – giveaways should be fun!
My apologies, but winners must be from the continental U.S.
I will use random.org’s integer generator to choose the commenters who win from my list of commenter emails. The giveaway is only open to U.S. residents. Entries will be accepted until 11:59 p.m. EST on Thursday, January 28th, and I’ll post the winners by the following Monday.

My favorite green resolution was to start using dr. bronners soap and replace all my toxic cleaners.
I subscribe in a reader. (tiff877)
I’m going to try vinegar as a rinse agent in the dishwasher.
I learned you can use Charlie’s soap in the carpet cleaning machine.
I just subscribed via e-mail.
My favorite Monday mission is today’s because it is my first! Healthy Upgrades-Real Food Recipe Renditions.
My other favorite blog is Passionate Homemaking.
Our green cleaning resolution: we’re using more baking soda and vinegar in our cleaning. Lots more natural products too. I’d love to try Charlie’s soap.
Charlie’s soap is great for cloth diapers. Hurrah!
My favorite other blog is Elana’s Pantry, and it’s all about cooking. Yum!
I learned that you only need to use 1 Tbsp per load. That’s amazing!
My green cleaners resolution is to switch from paper products to cloth (ack!). We’ve been 100% cloth napkins for years, but finally making the jump to no more paper towels is harder than I expected it to be.
I subscribe to your e-mail newsletter.
My favorite blog, other than Kitchen Stewardship of course, is jasmine star photography blog. Her pictures are beautiful, as is her prose.
I am aiming to green-up my bathroom cleaning habits (i.e., cleaning the bathtub, toilet, etc)…thanks for your tips!
I’m also 4 days away from having my first child, and planning to use cloth dipes/wipes…so that’s a pretty green aim too
I also just subscribed to your feed
I have been working on finding the best green cleaners for all cleaning needs and switching to them for some time. I really appreciate your green cleaners summary!
I have been enjoying Seventh Generation dish soap (when I can afford it), but more often… Bright Green brand Concentrated Dish Washing Liquid – Natural Lavender Scent. It smells so pretty, it ALMOST, makes makes me want to stand there washing dishes for 1/2 hour
I’m still looking at dishwashing liquid options, but am going with Seventh Generation for that at this time…. works well compared to other natural dishwasher soaps I’ve tried.
I just recently started making my own laundry detergent to save money and to cut out unhealthy ingredients which drain into our water supply, but I’d love to have another option on hand for when I’m in-between making batches and to try out. Still having a problem figuring out what to use on my 4 years olds stains!
Still working on natural cleansers for the bathrooms, but I have sworn off using comet and the like.
From the Charlie’s Soap Website, I learned that no fabric softener is needed. They state softener is used with detergents in order to cover up residue left on the material fibers and with Charlie’s, no residue is left.

I’m really new to your site, but so far, my favorite Monday Mission is that I have converted my family’s use of canola oil to coconut. Wow was I ever surprised. It was exciting to learn about coconut oil and very good to learn that canola is not the good oil I thought it was.
My other favorite blog besides yours, it “No Time for Flashcards.” I Love her creative arts projects for children. There are so, so many and we utilize her site all the time!
My Green resolution is to find a good natural pretreater for laundry. The one I’m using is close, but still has some ingredients I’d rather not tamper with.
I subscribed via email!
I didn’t know you could use Charlie’s soap to wash your pets.
My favorite blog is either Passionate Homemaking, or Naturally Knocked up. I love Lindsay and Donielle!
I would love to try Charlie’s soap products. I got into the whole cleaning naturally about 3 years ago when I was pregnant with my first child. I had no idea that what I was using was dangerous for me and for the health of my unborn child. I think my first realization of this was when I was spraying down the shower stalls with some purple stuff and had to leave the bathroom because I couldn’t breathe. My husband had to finish the job for me.
I started looking in to cleaning naturally and began using white vinegar, tea tree essential oil and baking soda for most of my cleaning needs. I was thrilled at how easy it was and quick, plus so much safer.
Then I stumbled upon using microfiber to clean! I now am a personal consultant for a company called Norwex. I educate people about a safer way to clean using water and other environmentally friendly personal care and cleaning products. I love microfiber. These cloths from Norwex remove 99.9% bacteria from smooth surfaces with only water. Now my cleaning is even easier than ever! I just grab my cloth, get it wet, and clean. I clean my whole bathroom with the microfiber cloth and water (except for the inside of the toilet).
I am so glad that I clean this way. It is so much safer for me, my kids, and my family. Plus it’s so easy and quick, and frugal, as one microfiber cloth is guaranteed to last for 2 years, but will actually last years longer with proper care.
I wish I could get my friends more interested in this, but they just aren’t interested because they don’t know about the dangers of commercial cleaners and personal care products. They figure, like I did before I changed how I clean, that if the store sells it, it must be safe.
Please enter me into this drawing, as I would love to try other natural and safe products to use in my home. Thanks!
I did eight of the ten- I am not signed up for Digg or Stumble, and you must be to use…
My Green Cleaners resolution is to start using ‘green’ detergent. I have been making my own fabric softener for a while (from vinegar and baking soda), but still use regular commercial detergent. (also posted on green cleaners page)
From the website I learned that Charlie’s soap is based in North Carolina where I live! If I buy their product, not only will I be suppporting a good, small business and using an environmentally friendly product, I will be supporting a LOCAL business! I like that a lot!
I was already subscribed to Kitchen Stewardship and already followed on Twitter.
Have posted link on my blog as well as Facebook and Twitter.
My favorite blog other than Kitchen Stewardship (and my own, of course!) is Totally Together Journal. Topic – organization http://www.totallytogetherjournal.com/

This is my second entry. I took a look at the web site, as I am new to this product, and what caught my interest is that Charlie’s soap removes mildew stains! I think I read this in your review of the product as well. I use a washable polyester shower curtain, and there are some mildew stains on the bottom that I can’t get out. I’d love to try this soap to see if it will get it clean! In the past I’ve had to throw away bibs and other pieces of clothing that got mildew on them from being a tad bit damp, sitting in the basement, waiting to be washed.
my resolution is to start using charlie’s soap all-purpose cleaner – well, try it anyway. we have horrible iron-rich hard water and it stains everything in our house orange. the only thing i can find to clean it is stinky toilet cleaner (yes, even use it in the shower). it smells horrible and probably has taken years off my lungs.
we already use charlie’s soap in the laundry – been using it for years! LOVE IT! i have such sensitive skin and it doesn’t bother me at all!
i learned they’ve been around since 1976! i didn’t realize that! so proud to support local NC companies!
My green cleaning goal is to actually look into it. So much of what I see is so expensive, or not all that natural. In dealing with sensitive skin, eczema and a tight budget, I have been wary.
New resolution would be to try Charlie’s Soap! Been curious about it for a long time. I already love cleaning with baking soda and vinegar and Borax
I learned it only takes a tablespoon per load. That’s amazing!
I subscribed by email.
I really like reading The Nourishing Gourmet! So fun.
I think all of my cleaners are green, but I am always looking for some that could do a better job.
My resolution is to use less paper towels. I was doing better at this but I’ve started to back slide.

my favorite Monday Mission is the one mentioned in the Simply Indulgent post today showing how you can redo your favorite recipes that have processed foods in them. And I liked the Hamburger Helper redo but I have to make it Gluten Free….but that’s pretty easy.

I feel like I am a pretty “green” cleaner, using vinegar, hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, tea tree oil, etc. I do however love that I stumbled upn your blog, because I NEED to make some serious changes in my kitchen!
I’ve been trying to buy only cleaners that say “natural”, but I’d also like to try vinegar as a shower cleaner.
I learned that Charlie’s actually improves the flame retardant properties in children’s sleepwear.
I subscribe via e-mail.
My favorite Monday Mission is the meal planning. Some weeks I do better than others, but I always feel better (and spend less money at the grocery store) when I have the meals planned out for the week.
I am very curious to see if Charlies Soap really can do what it says it can. I didn’t realize that it worked on all sorts of stains.
