10 Reasons I Love My Readers (A Week of Giveaways!)

February 22nd, 2010 · 205 Comments · Uncategorized

image I am very blessed to have worked with some fabulous companies over the past year, and it always brings me joy to be able to give away great prizes to you, my faithful readers.

Why do I love you so?  Let me count the ways:

  1. Sheer numbers.  Not that I wouldn’t love it if there were 37 of you, but I’m geeked that I hit my goal of 2000 faithful followers (mwaahaahhahhhahaha) by the time I’d been at this thing a year!
  2. Your amazing comments. So many comments add to the body of knowledge in the post, and I’m humbled by how much you share with the rest of us.
  3. Your kind comments. Stroking my ego is not what I should be am here for, but it’s a nice perk!
  4. Real friends I’ve made. I feel like I know Lenetta, Sarah, and Sarah W as well as I know my own real life friends!  There are a ton of other regular commenters, too, who I think “Where’s so-and-so?” about when they haven’t shared anything for a while.
  5. You ask good questions. I love a challenge, and I’m constantly finding more to research and new perspectives from my readers via their email or commented questions.  Keep on asking!
  6. Your trust in me. My standard is to be (brutally, sometimes) honest with you all whenever I write.  I’m glad you don’t mind it and see me as a real person!
  7. Sharing KS with friends: many thanks to other bloggers who have been kind enough to link to my pages and share the love with your readers!
  8. Your prayers for me. Wow, do I need them!  I’m humbled that people I don’t know would offer up a little mention of me to God.
  9. Unknown connections. I think sometimes of the great many of you who faithfully read KS and don’t comment, so I don’t know who you are.  Maybe you get posts via email or just don’t have anything to add (and that’s okay!!).  What’s neat is that there’s a whole web of people I don’t know anything about remaining connected into this journey of stewardship.  Like the mystical Body of Christ, I think there’s something special about that.
  10. Someone to share with. We women love to talk!  You give me the opportunity to ramble on (and on, and on, and on…) assuming someone is listening.  Thanks for putting up with me!
The First Giveaway

Because I love you so much, here’s a simple and fun treat for you from my all-time favorite laundry product, NaturOli Soap Nuts:

image One winner will receive an 8-oz Extreme 18X Liquid Laundry Detergent Concentrate AND a sample bar of the new Kitchen Coffee Soap!

THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED; THANKS FOR ENTERING!  Extreme Soap Nuts liquid is on sale through 3/1/10 – check it out!

The soap isn’t even available yet; what a treat!  I’m intrigued myself…  :)

Soap nuts tie for my favorite review and giveaway from the year (Biokleen has to be in there too), since I had such fun testing them out.  Greening up my laundry was a big goal for last year, and it was so comforting to find something that worked.  You can see my trials in my original soap nuts review and learn why I love this natural laundry soap that grows on trees!

The liquid is equally effective and natural, and you only use a teaspoon per load, half that for HE washers.  What a deal!

For this giveaway, I’m keeping it simple and honoring longtime readers.  You can get up to FOUR entries by:

  1. Leaving a comment about your worst laundry disaster ever.
  2. Telling me if you get my email subscription or reader feed.
  3. Following me on Twitter AND tweeting this giveaway.
  4. BONUS: If you’ve been around more than 6 months, tell me the first Monday Mission you remember!

All entries must be in separate comments.

I will use random.org’s integer generator to choose the commenters who win from my list of commenter emails.  The giveaway is only open to U.S. residents.  Entries will be accepted until 11:59 p.m. EST on Friday, February 26th, and I’ll post the winners by the following Monday.

Seriously, while you’re waiting to win, you should buy some regular Soap nuts.  They are too much fun!

More to Come!

Keep checking back every day this week as the giveaways will just keep getting better as we celebrate Kitchen Stewardship’s blogoversary!

Two:  Practically Green by Micaela Preston
Three: Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day and Healthy Bread in Five Minutes a Day
Four:  Random Eco-Friendly Giveaway Package

Fun Fact: My very first giveaway was Bugaloo shoes, which Lovey Girl is still wearing as slippers around the house.  They are having an amazing sale this week, all leather baby shoes $12.99:

Disclosure:  I did not receive any products to review, but NaturOli is providing a prize for my readers.  I am their affiliate along with Bugaloo, and if you happen to purchase any products there – which I would recommend without this perk – I’ll make a small commission.  Thank you!

My worst laundry moment was a typical one. Somehow a red piece of clothing mixed in with my sons’ whites and ruined several shirts. :(

What an awesome giveaway! My laundry is always a disaster : ( Our water is so hard. I would love to see if this product will work in it.

My biggest laundry disaster would have to be either the typical red sock that snuck into the white load, or drying my husband’s dress shirts–which shrunk them and cased the sleeves to be ridiculously short!

Worst laundry accident had to do with ink and several recently purchased articles of clothing. Not pretty.

LOVE your site, Katie! Just found it a couple of months ago and have gained SO much knowledge about healthy eating/cooking! Thank you!

My worst laundry situation wasn’t/really isn’t that bad. However, I will start a load by putting in the soap and walk away to let the water and soap mix a bit. Of course being a mom I get distracted and often times I NEVER go back to put the clothes in! Ugh!!

    I subscribe too! :)

Ooh, love this giveaway and love you and your blog!

Worst laundry disaster – far worse than having DH “help” by washing red sheets (don’t ask) with all our whites turning me into a marshmellow peep for months, was having DH’s BIL (family was living with us at the time) throw the towel from his cat’s litterbox (with all of the dirty kitty litter on it) into the washing machine. I had to spend 45 minutes upside down in the machine picking up every piece of rock and sand and clay since I was the only one who had long enough arms to reach them. Ugh.

Worst laundry disaster: dropping the open bottle of bleach and having it splatter all over the clothes I was wearing, the other laundry waiting to be done and the rug in front of the washer.

My biggest laundry disaster would have to be when I first got married. We lived in the middle of no where and only had one car which my husband took to work. I happened to have the day off. I had started a load of laundry but, realized I did not have any laundry soap. Being that i couldn’t get to the store I thought…”i wonder if dish soap would work?” You can tell I was clueless. Needless to say, it didn’t work, it made a horrible mess and it overflowed much like you would see on tv or the movies. Fun stuff. I should’ve taken pictures. :)

I don’t have too many Laundry disasters (thankfully) but once I did make the mistake of accidentally washing a red with my whites and ended up with pink…ugh!

One of my favorite Monday missions was to make your own yogurt! We eat a lot of it around here but I had never thought to make my own.

  • Amy @ Homestead Revival

My worst laundry disaster was an orange crayola in the dryer on all my husband’s good clothes just hours before a plane flight!

I’m always on the lookout for good laundry options – in fact, one summer it was my personal research project, to study laundry!

  • Carmen

Worst laundry disaster: I ruined a dress I loved and had only worn one time! It was a long time ago but I think I washed it in a regular cycle and it should have been delicate.

  • Carmen

First Monday mission I remember was about limiting microwave use. How long ago was that? Maybe not 6 months.

  • Rebecca

My biggest laundry disaster involved doing a bunch of laundry after my kids had received a bunch of stickers in the mail. . . without checking their clothes for stickers! There were several shirts covered in tiny circle stickers that were then covered in washed and dried sticker GOO. It took a LOT of picking to get it all off.

  • Jen

I love their laundry soap – tried the soap nuts too, they are nice and work fine but I kept forgetting to find the bag in the wash :-) I think the liquid works better for me!

And the Monday Mission that sticks out in my head is menu planning, because it is my biggest struggle/setback!

My very favorite wool sweater took a tumble in the dryer on high without my realizing (bless those boys for trying to do laundry, I suppose). It’s still a great sweater … if you have a toddler to put it on.

I haven’t had anything too disastrous – just a couple run-ins with colors bleeding in the wash.

My biggest laundry mistake was letting my husband do the laundry after I resumed teaching. After giving instuctions, he forgot which machine was which and “tried” to wash the clothes in the dryer. It was a mess trying to get all the detergent out of the dryer!

I think I’ve been a reader for 6 months. The first mission that I remember taking getting rid of plastics. I immediately gave up 2 sets of plastic dishes and glasses. I still have my lock and lock storage containers, but I save all my glass jars now for storage.

  • Meg

Right after my husband and I returned from our honeymoon, my sweet hubby did laundry and turned every white thing I own to a dingy pink.

I defied Rule #1, check the pockets. My son had a lovely time acquiring Tootise Rolls while watching a parade. I put half the one he had not eaten in the pocket of my favorite sweatshirt and it went through the washer and dryer. Could not get that one out. I should have just eaten it!

    I subscribe via email. Thanks!

  • Karen

I read your website daily and am always intrigued by something I find here.

  • Karen

I would love to try the soapnuts concentrate…I don’t have distasters with laundry too often but I did once wash and dry a chapstick in my sons pocket which melted rather nicely and left wax on other clothes :)

  • Karen

I’ve read quite a few monday missions but I guess the first one was reducing food waste

My worst laundry disaster was washing a rug (that said do not wash… but it was dirty; what was I supposed to do, throw it away?) It didn’t do too bad in the washer so I threw it in the dryer. BIG mistake!! It shed so much fuzz that it plugged up the vent pipe and DH had to take it apart to clean it. He got almost a “meijer” plastic bag full of fuzz out….
