Avoiding processed foods comes with one big drawback: you have to “process” everything yourself.  When it’s time to run out the door with hungry kids, sometimes that can be a real hassle.

In the Real Food Face-Off, so many people said the “most challenging part” about committing to a real food diet is eating away from home and/or packing food to go. The overwhelming majority of responders in my January reader survey also requested more snacks and food to go. Here’s your answer, dear readers: Healthy Snacks To Go!power balls and bars homemade larabars Kitchen Stewardship’s Healthy Snacks to Go features fourteen different versions of a homemade fruit and nut power bar (like a Larabar without the packaging) plus 20 other low and no sugar snacks that are portable and munchable as well as nutrient-packed.  Many can hang out in your diaper bag, backpack or desk drawer as easily as any O-shaped cereal or processed granola bar, and the rest make great lunchtime foods for the brown baggers in your household.
