Real Food Kids and Other Weekend Reading for You

April 23rd, 2010 · 3 Comments · Uncategorized

Hello dear readers!  Today I just felt like taking a minute to check in on my bloggy friends by reading instead of writing.  Here are my four favorite links from my reader feeds this week.

You’ll also find me over at Kate’s, in a neat post called What Do You Feed Your Real Food Kid? at Modern Alternative Mama.

Weekend Reading Links:

Learning to Live With Less at Keeper of the Home Take out the part about actually moving yet, and I wish I could write this post. I aspire to simplicity but get snagged up by my packrat and “what if I need it someday?” tendencies. Whether we get to move soon or not, I’m going to be very picky about what comes back into our house from the four vanloads we sent to my in-laws!  You inspire me, Stephanie!

Is Truvia Healthy? at Food Renegade A super update to my post on Stevia and Agave Nectar.

Amy Green meets Joel Salatin! at Simply Sugar and Gluten Free You know him as the farmer who kills chickens outside if you’ve ever seen Food, Inc. or read The Omnivore’s Dilemma.  I’m so jealous that Amy got to hear him speak and even got him to sign her chef’s apron!

Lessons from an Internet Fast at Momopoly So many of us mom bloggers struggle with balance and computer time. Kate Wicker explores her relationship with the Internet via her week offline and Lenten promises to structure her computer time.  I see myself in so much of what she writes, it’s uncanny.  Dear Lord, grant me self-discipline!

Thank you for sharing these links. I love to discover new sites with great information. Regarding the mommy/internet time – I’m starting my day today with a vow to turn off (not just sleep it) the computer as soon as my son wakes-up. My time with my kids is precious & I’ll remove the temptation to “just quickly check my email” ;o)

I just watched Food Inc the other night on PBS. It really makes me sad to think of what our food choices have turned into. Or rather our lack of food choices. I thought I did a good job on getting rid of HFCS but I did a little search in my pantry and realize I have not. Maybe from the last time I really paid attention there are more items that have HFCS in them? In any case, I am going to be better about our shopping.

I am happy to said that we just stocked our freezer up with grass feed beef. Wow! Can you really see the difference and taste the difference.

When watching Food Inc. I really liked Joel Salatin. He reminded me of a dear friend of ours who process his own meat, chickens, pigs and grows all thier own food. We aspire.

I will be back to learn more about how to really cook!

Thank you so much for your blog!

    Tina,
Welcome and thank you so much for sharing. It’s a tough world out there to figure out all the ingredients labels! Our grassfed beef is usually quite lean, and rarely tastes “gamey”. Every farm is different, and sometimes seasons are different too.

Enjoy that freezer full! :) Katie
