…to open my Nutrimill Grain Mill from Pleasant Hill Grain with my kids and let them play with the packing peanuts.
It seemed like a “fun mom” thing to do at the time. Mom’s not so fun after 30 minutes of picking up crushed packing peanuts!
Now to test the eco-friendliness of the post office: will they accept packing peanuts for reuse so I don’t have to throw them away? And why does one box need to be packed in packing peanuts? It’s a box already!
I’ll share my first experiences with the grain mill and ensuing fun as the summer wears on. Let’s get to 5,000 subscribers by fall so I can offer YOU a giveaway of a brand new Nutrimill as part of the Seeking the Perfect Homemade Whole Grain Bread series.
{I know. That wasn’t wordless. That’s seriously a challenge for me!}

What a mess! But it looks like they had a blast, and that’s what really matters, isn’t it?

Looks like lots of fun. Staples will take the packing peanuts if you have one near you.

… so will UPS if you have one close, too.

That cracked me up. I clicked over from RFM’s Facebook page so didn’t know who the post went to. I couldn’t really think of any of us food bloggers who were *ever* wordless. Enjoy the mill!

I had a similar situation when I opened my Mountain Rose Herbs order and Lucky Vitamin order a couple weeks ago; except mine was newsprint paper and bubble wrap everywhere! Looks like it’s time for you to pull out a shop vac.
Your new e-book sounds great. I RT it for you on Twitter.
Blessings,

Heeeeyyy! That’s the same one I have…only mine is still in the box
I’m getting VERY close to opening it though, because I’m almost done with my last bag of King Arthur White Whole Wheat flour. Can’t wait to try it out and hear about your own adventures!

That is totally stressing me out just looking at the photos! Ha! Does look like they had a good time though. Good job Mom!

I’m sure they had fun! Maybe it’ll be one of the things they remember that for their whole lives reminds them of how cool you are! Happy WW!

I did that once. They have so much fun but they seem to stick and never go away!
I save my packing peanuts and reuse them, sending them in packages to people I know who also reuse like my Mom. It works great!

Hi Katie!-LOVE your blog and have learned so much from you! Keep up the good work! I can’t wait to get your e-snacks book! I re-use packing peanuts as filler at the bottom of flower pots or potted tomato plants- it works great to take up room at the bottom and then put your soil on top!

I’ve brought packing peanuts to UPS in the past for them to re-use, in case the post office doesn’t accept them…

Oh Katie, thanks for all your hard work keeping us informed. I, too, have the Nutrigrain Mill and simply adore it! I have it sitting right on my countertop so I can mill anything I need, right when I need so it is fresh.
As for the packing peanuts, you can still have a ton of fun with your children by giving them a piece of colored paper and a glue stick. I do this with my grandkids and they have a great time. Just draw a snowman on the paper and let them fill it in with a bit of glue and the peanuts. Other pictures work well, also.
Again, thanks and good luck with your new mill. I know you’ll love it.

Yeah that stinks. I like how a lot of companies are shipping with plastic air pouches instead od peanuts.

Those things drive me nuts. But the kids sure do have fun… when I don’t hide the peanuts first!
