EcoLunchBox three-in-one stainless steel food storage system
“A typical American school kid generates 67 pounds of discarded lunchbox packaging waste per school year. That’s more than 18,000 pounds annually for an average-size elementary school, which adds up nationwide to more than 1 billion pounds annually. A typical U.S. family using disposibles generates more than 4,000 pieces of lunch trash unnecessarily each year, according to our ECOlunchboxes Lunchbox Waste Study 2010.
Some reusable lunchbox options, such as stainless steel food containers and coated aluminum water bottles and plastic bento-box-style lunchboxes, have entered the market in recent years. But cobbling together a no-garbage lunchbox solution that avoids the health risks of vinyl, plastic, lead and aluminum is a daunting challenge in today’s marketplace.
Our ECOlunchbox Kit is a sensible, back-to-the-basics reaction to the potential health risks associated with standard lunchboxes as well as the shocking amount of waste created by the packaging in typical U.S. lunchboxes.” [Read more here...]

Frugal Granola‘s His and Hers sandwich and snack bags
“A completely plastic-free alternative to disposable sandwich/storage bags!
Made with 100% cotton, each bag is lined with a durable heavy-weight fabric that is designed to be naturally water-repellent. (These are nylon-free, since nylon is also a form of plastic.)
In 2007, our family jumped into the adventure of living simply and sustainably, soon after adopting our first baby. By 2008, I had rediscovered the blessings of homemaking, and delighted in sharing my creative solutions for frugal, natural living.
I began writing the Frugal Granola blog, as well as offering some of my handmade solutions in the shop. Our simple living lifestyle soon included some unique surprises and challenges, such as unemployment, a joyous natural pregnancy after infertility, relocating (in faith) out-of-state, and other incredible seasons.
Through it all, we have appreciated all that we have been given, and seek to be good stewards of our resources, while supporting ethical, sustainable pursuits.”
eco*ditty sandwich and snack bag
At eco•ditty™ we’re committed to helping you and the environment get healthy! Our reusable sandwich and award winning snack bags are made from 100% Organic Cotton and printed with low-impact inks and dyes.
When you use an eco•ditty™ bag to carry your perishable and dry food items, you’re keeping a plastic sack out of the landfill and dangerous toxins like BPA and PVC out of your body.
Just before our daughter turned 2, we discovered she was allergic to PVC plastic. In our efforts to rid our home environment of toxins, it occurred to us that food storage and transport could be a BIG problem. Thus, eco•ditty™ was conceived for kids of ALL ages!
eco-ditty bags are not meant for long-term food storage, so we sually recommend packing lunch in the morning and consuming within 5 hours.
eco-ditty isn’t for everyone because we insist on using ONLY 100% Organic Cotton, inside and out. Although a little dampness may come thru when packing apple slices and carrots, it’s worth it for our health’s sake to avoid plastic whenever possible. Whether or not your body reacts strongly to plastics like PVC and BPA, everyone is at risk from contact with petroleum products.
We believe reusable bags are worth the effort for the good of our environment, no matter which brand you choose. Just choose to make a difference!
Eco Lunch Gear sandwich wrap, snack bag and cinch sack from Hazelnut Kids
“As my family and I worked hard at making changes around our home to be more eco friendly – getting back to our roots and in turn saving money – we saw the need for a change in the way we were packing lunches. Having eliminated plastic wrap, aluminum foil, and plastic baggies in our house as one of the attempts to decrease our trash, we researched what options were available for a zero waste lunch and found very little.
So I developed a wrap with a nylon liner (to get away from vinyl and plastics) that would be able to be thrown in the washing machine if desired. I went on to develop a snack bag that could open up completely for easy cleanup to eliminate lingering crumbs in the seams. In my search for an eco alternative I felt strongly about using certified organic cotton and organic canvas in my products.
All of eco lunch gear products are made in Northern Michigan by talented people.”

I shared at Diaper Diaries Things I Love Thursday!

Has everyone seen the re-useble bowl covers on Frugal Granola?? I was over there looking at their lunch gear but saw those too. very clever! It’s in place of saran wrap or foil that you would put over a bowl of leftovers in the fridge!

Ah, thanks for the “shout-out”, Suz.!
I have a box of plastic wrap that my mom bought last summer (worried that I didn’t have any in my kitchen)- and it’s still there! I hardly ever need it now.
Blessings,
Michele

LOVE the new survey-style for doing entries, Katie!
@Suz – those covers look so cool! I’ve seen a plastic version of them by Ziploc or Glad, which are also somewhat reuseable, but these are probably more durable and certainly cuter. What a great solution for storage in bowls you don’t have a top for!

Such a wonderful, useful giveaway! I’m not entering because I feel someone else should win, I don’t really need all this (as if I’d win anyway, lol), but just wanted you to know it’s so nice. When I run giveaways the hardest thing for me is I want to give it to EVERYONE and I have to pick just one! Do you have that problem, too?
