You may have noticed that I don’t always follow the status quo. I’m not one to swallow facts and trends without challenging them. I may rock the boat at times, but I try always to stay in it at least.
Life…Your Way is a new Ezine with 10 channels to “help you sort through all of the facts and opinions so you can make an informed decision about what works best for your preferences, your needs and your lifestyle.” Somehow it makes sense that I would fit in!
Channel topics include:
- organizing
- technology
- blogging
- green
- productivity
- success
- decorating
- finances
- food
- motherhood
I’m excited to be partnered with Emily of Live Renewed as the contributing writers at Green…Your Way. Today is my first post, and I’m also pleased to give you all a little break from the reviews and giveaways and just talk lunch…the green way. I’ve taken a new twist on “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” to help you find “Your Way” to pack a lunch more friendly to the environment.
The article begins:
Billions of plastic baggies, over a billion pounds of trash1, and countless fields of food are tossed into elementary and high school wastebaskets in America each year. Americans pitch 2.5 million plastic bottles every hour. 1
Clearly no one is going to suggest that we’re a very “green” nation with such practices. But we’re getting better at it. Low-waste and waste-free lunch packing is thankfully becoming more mainstream in America.
There are so many ways to reduce our waste as we eat our sack lunches.
Step one: change up the sack. No more brown bags!
Here are some of the unique and innovative ways you can put a new twist on the old “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” when you’re brown baggin’ it without the paper bag. [Click to read more...]
I’d really encourage you to visit and see what else Mandi Ehman, the brilliant boss behind the project, has been up to on the Green channel.
For today, do join the community at KS in a conversation about lunches that are friendlier to YOU. What kinds of favorite healthy lunches does your family enjoy? I can already envision the comments at this post being an incredible resource that will give me some new ideas, too!

Trail mix, always versatile– sliced vegetables– pasta salad or (olive oil) potato salad– sandwiches– fresh fruit– leftover pizza and quiche– muffins and sliced quick bread– applesauce– tortilla chips and salsa– and yes, bags of pretzels. I do try to get those WITHOUT bad oils and WITH whole grains!
That’s what ends up in my husband’s lunchbox.

I just wanted to say that the biscuits on your site looked so good I had to immediately close the screen. I am gluten free, and those were about to kill me via envy! I could almost smell them. I’ve been craving biscuits and gravy lately.

My lunches have been organic olive oil mayo salmon salad sandwich, or applegate farms turkey sandwiches, with applegate farms swiss cheese, organic mustard, lettuce from the garden or local hydroponic lettuce, and whatever else is in the crisper and sandwich worthy.
I like apple wedges with organic peanut butter to snack on during class, and some kefir with honey for dessert. Sometimes a little dark chocolate.
The sandwiches are made on gluten free bread (usually homemade with whole grain brown rice flour and sorghum flour, and a couple of starches for lightness…or Bob’s Red Mill Hearty Whole Grain Gluten Free Bread Mix).
Water with lemon and maple syrup to drink.
