Tame Mount Dishes…Just Don’t Wash!

You cut some corners in the kitchen to keep yourself sane, right?

Join me at Babycenter today for my kitchen efficiency tips (otherwise known as “7 Dishes I Just Don’t Wash“).

Yes, that’s my Mount Dishes. After a normal day of cooking. You better believe I need these tips for dishes that just don’t need it!

For me, it’s all about lazy efficiency. In other words, I don’t worry about that lovely (but unrealistic) ideal of “cleaning up as you go,” instead I think “what can I keep out of the pile of dishes so my husband will still like me at the end of the day?”

Here are 7 ways to save time in the kitchen:

something tells me that at some point, I will have to wash some of those dishes….your pic look like my kitchen after just one meal, it seems. I will read though, in hopes that it will make my life more efficient!!!

To add to your collection of ideas: I DO wash but do not dry wooden spoons and rubber spatulas as they are stored in a upright crock next to my stove.

Ha! I feel your pain, Katie :) We recently moved to an old farm house with a HUGE kitchen – but no dish washer. Like you, I make everything from scratch for my family of 4. I recently calculated that I’m spending 1-2 hours each day tackling dishes. All I want for Christmas is a dishwasher!!!! I can think of much better things to do with those hours!

I am with you on this one, Katie. Dishes, tools, pans that have been lightly used with non greasy or dry foodstuffs get a rinse and an air dry here, too.

My other best tip for saving time on clean up is to wash the pot or pan while it is still hot. I do this for lightly soiled pots, anything that just takes a quick swipe when hot but is a mess when cold. The cold water from the faucet sizzles and steams the surface so you can quickly clean the pot and rinse without even calling on the hot water heater from a few rooms away. Just don’t try swishing with a plastic brush or it will never be the same! ;)
