I know it’s only February, and in fact we finally had a snowfall here in Michigan yesterday…but I’m still deep into cleaning and organizing in the new house.
After blinking and wincing through the smell of Lysol wipes yesterday in my son’s classroom, I’m reminded anew how simply happy I am to use safe, non-toxic cleaners in our home. I can clean with my baby in the Moby Wrap or a bouncy chair, I can ask my kiddos to clean without wondering what they’ll ingest, and I cringe a little less when toddlers’ mouths go on my coffee table.
I had a lot of fun writing a "top 7" post for Babycenter again, since it’s an amazing chance to share the green lifestyle with folks who might not always read that side of things. And it’s SO EASY!
When little ones start to lick coffee tables or fiddle with the detergent cup on the dishwasher, many moms start to re-think the toxic cleaners and personal products in their homes.
Finding eco-friendly cleaners to create a toddler-friendly house is an important change to make, but it can be daunting.
Luckily, if you’ve got a box of baking soda, for less than a dollar you can send your Magic Eraser the way of the blackboard and shoot Comet back to outer space.
I bet a lot of you are well-versed in the art of green (and frugal!) cleaning and personal care, so I’m crossing my fingers that I’m cool enough to share one or two tips you didn’t already know – it’s also a great list to share with your own Facebook friends or family who are rookies to the green lifestyle or in love with their Lysol and bleach.
(And you bet I just made a double batch of my homemade baby wipes with tea tree oil and labeled them "disinfecting wipes" to take to school!)

Lindsey,

I tried a bunch of homemade versions (scary) and was super happy with Biokleen for 18 mos., then it suddenly stopped being effective. ??? We’ve just in the past few weeks settled on Ecover (tabs work better but powder does ok and is less expensive). That’s definitely one of the tricky “green” things

Oh my gosh, I used to use Biokleen too, not sure what happened. Then I tried their liquid/gel and it works ok but I don’t like the smell. I recently started using GreenShield Organic gel in the dishwasher with vinegar in the rinse compartment. I like! I came over from Simple Organic.
