While you’re waiting for another sweeteners post on "-ol" those alternative sweeteners, here’s a green cleaning post for you over at Simple Organic:

Kids are notoriously messy, and I do believe they’ve earned the reputation justly.

From a variety of bodily fluids on the carpet to crayon on the walls and crumbs mortaring the cracks in the table, moms have lots to say about the messes kids make. When I asked on Facebook about kid mess examples, I got lots of fodder for this post.

Here are the highlights:

  • When things hit your carpet
  • Crafts gone wrong
  • Clothing stains
  • When you wish bleach was natural
  • Plus some great solutions for getting stickers off in the comments…

I have downloaded and printed my copy of the second addition. Can I pay you something so that I can give my first addition to my sister?

    Martha,
Sorry I missed your comment for so long – I got totally behind when I published the 2nd edition. You are so sweet to ask, but you know – just pass it along to her, and if she wants the new one, watch for a sale! ;) Katie

What do you use as bleach in the washer when 1) trying to get your husbands undershirts white and 2) washing yuky stuff

    Kristina,
Phew, i got behind – I use oxygen bleach to soak any nasty laundry stains. Soak in a tub for an hour up to a few days (if you forget b/c that enter-pressing child requires your time…). ;) It does a great job on *almost* everything. :) Katie

Thanks! I think we all understand the getting behind on things … :) I just bought some Biokleen ‘bleach’ to try. And my dog threw up on the carpet last night so I will be trying it on that also! :)

I’m very interested in your response to KristinaD’s question about bleach in the laundry. I have one to add: My SIL always puts a dollop of bleach in her dishwater to kill germs. I’ve depended on the extra hot water in my dishwasher to do the same, but it is acting up and I am washing my dishes in the sink for the time being. What could I add to my water to have the same germ-killing properties as that bit of bleach? I can’t stand hot enough water to kill everything, I know, and not getting glasses/silverware really clean bothers me.

    Kathy,
Try a dollop of white vinegar, or even spray the clean dishes in the drying rack with 50/50 hydrogen peroxide and water. :) Katie
