Green Valley Organics Lactose Free Products

From the company:

green valley organics peach yogurtGreen Valley Organics® has two new reasons for dairy lovers to enjoy their all natural, probiotic-packed lactose free products: Peach Yogurt made with juicy, organic peaches and Strawberry Pomegranate Acai Kefir, a smooth, creamy blend made with organic, antioxidant-rich fruits.

“I continue to come back to Green Valley Organics as my brand of choice, both personally and for my lactose-intolerant patients: it has both plain (no-added sugar) and lower-sugar flavors, it’s made with organic milk, it comes from a single, certified humane dairy farm in California, and it doesn’t contain unnecessary fillers and preservatives.  While it’s encouraging that large corporations are responding to the needs of this long-ignored group of consumers, it’s frustrating that the new crop of lactose-free yogurts being marketed have up to 26 grams of sugar per modest 6-oz serving, do not offer ‘plain’ varieties for weight conscious or diabetic customers who need to avoid added sugar, and are loaded with processed food additives and preservatives that have no business being in yogurt.  After all, yogurt is supposed to be a healthy food!”

Adding to the health appeal of Green Valley Organics yogurt and kefir is the addition of Flourish® – a custom blend of 10 live active probiotic cultures that promotes optimal digestive and immune system health. Flourish delivers eight more health-promoting live active cultures than the USDA’s yogurt requirement of two.green valley organics kefir

In addition to the two new products, Green Valley Organics is introducing a new larger size (24-oz.) of it best-selling Vanilla yogurt. The Plain and Honey yogurt also are available in the larger size.

Products are available nationwide at grocery, specialty and natural food retailers.  Find a store near you here.

From Katie:

I know, you should be making your own homemade yogurt by now. BUT in case you’re not, or you’re traveling, or you’re in a pinch…holy cow, these yogurts are the bomb. My kids will say, “Do we still have the good yogurt?” when we’re working through a carton of Green Valley. The fact that it’s lactose-free and organic are truly the icing on the cake.

Green Valley Organics Certified Humane Cow Dairy

The real cows (look how happy they are!) that make the GVO products…

I took their pamphlets in to two local health food stores to recommend that they start carrying the line. The yogurt is only slightly higher (if even at all) than organic yogurt otherwise, and although the sour cream is a bit pricey, I bet it’s worth it if you’re lactose-intolerant!

We loved the new big tub of vanilla – my husband said, “I really need to start putting vanilla in my yogurt all the time. This is amazing.” We mixed the sweetened versions half-and-half with plain and they were still plenty sweet. I also really like the goat’s milk yogurt, sweetened with real maple syrup (and my first taste of goat’s milk products!). How can you not love the fact that Green Valley missed out on that snacks giveaway because my contact was milking her first goat the day I was trying to confirm! Winking smile That’s one cool company.

One copy of Real Food…Real Easy!

sponsored by Real Food…Real Easy! authors
$9.95

From Katie:

I’m thrilled to introduce this brand new eBook, a team effort from seven amazing women. I’ve had the pleasure of working with many of them as colleagues or with guest posts here at KS (like Erin’s homemade baby body wash, Nikki’s how an elimination diet cured eczema, and Stacy’s freezer biscuits and crockpot sweet potato soup).

The book Real Food…Real Easy! is aimed at both real food rookies who need simple recipes and the basic information to get them started on the from-scratch lifestyle and experienced real foodies who just want a taste of the old familiar foods back, but without compromising.

I just got my review copy in my hot little hands, but I kid you not, here are the recipes I am trying within the next 5 days!

  • Chocolate peanut butter cereal – made with popcorn. My husband is going to KISS me for this!
  • Savory Salsa Crustless Quiche – grain-free and with salsa in the morning, and he won’t have to scramble his own eggs. More kissing, I presume.
  • Black Bean Dip
  • Gluten-free pumpkin cake (I just baked my last 3 pie pumpkins yesterday!)

When gluten comes back to our house OR when I perfect the gluten-free flour recipe on page 114 of this book, I’m making Nikki’s Cinnamon Maple Breakfast Cereal, a soaked, cooked, and then dehydrated thingy that sounds like I’ll be getting more kisses in the morning, and hopefully some, “Dear, I’ll gladly do some laundry/massage your back/take the kids out while you put your feet up,” action, too. ;)

image

A couple of the recipes seem almost too simple to be included…but then again, I’m not a rookie anymore, and I’m definitely in the mood for some fresh recipes in my kitchen! Winking smile A huge pat on the back to the ladies behind the powerhouse that makes Real Food…Real Easy!

MadeOn Hard Lotion Gift Package

sponsored by MadeOn image
$23.75-24.50

From Katie:

I’ve been using MadeOn lotions (and giving them to everyone I know at Christmastime) for almost two years now, and I remain a huge fan.

Everyone in the family has their own lip balm on their nightstand, and every jacket I own holds one in the pocket. I still have a bit left of the very first tube I ever got, and after two years, it’s still just as amazing (although starting to look pretty nasty on the outside after living in my makeup bag for so long!).

I’ve also taken to keeping some pocket bars and lip balms on hand for little gifts, like my daughter’s Kindermusik teacher at our last class this Sunday.

3 simple ingredients, all safe to ingest, whether your skin is absorbing them or your teething baby is gnawing on your finger.

May I be so bold as to help you shop? There’s free shipping on orders over $50 and some quantity discounts if you buy multi-packs. If it were me, I’d get the 5-pack of lip balms (go for peppermint!), the 5-pack of pocket bars (I love Au Chocolat, but my mother would say stick with Beesilk), and one big bar for your family, or maybe the Beesilk Jr. if you’d rather dip your fingers in than apply a hard lotion bar this time of year. (The Au Chocolat is a bit softer than the Beesilk, so I love it every night before I go to bed…)

If you’ve got a frugal streak, you might enjoy the DIY kit, and you can make your own without even having to shop for supplies. Renee will even show you how to make everything in some videos at her site or one of her DIY eBooks. I love that there aren’t “trade secrets” or proprietary formulas, blah, just openness and great products with well-sourced ingredients.

The winner of this contest will get a gift bag with a large bar, pocket bar, and lip balm…and they will be so happy. Winking smile

Red’s All Natural Burritos and Quesadillas

sponsored by Red’s All Natural
$70image

From the company:

Like so many stories, ours begins with an epiphany.

One night, our founder Mike Adair was enjoying his wife Paige’s famous Tuesday night burrito recipe. He smiled from ear to ear thinking about how tasty the meal was that he had just enjoyed. Mike began thinking that it was a shame that they could not share the dinner with the world. It was at that moment, while Paige was singing Meat Loaf’s “I would do anything for love…,” he said “why can’t we?” He turned to his right to see their trusty dog, Red, nod in agreement.

Red’s all Natural was born.

The prize: 1 case of burritos (10 burritos total, winner chooses the flavor they would like) and 4 boxes of quesadillas (2 quesadilla in each box – 1 of each flavor: Pulled Pork, Buffalo Chicken, Steak and Bean & Cheese)

From Katie:

How often can you buy a freezer food that requires no compromise?

(Never?)

Me, too.

When we tested Red’s All Natural burritos, my husband’s first comment upon cutting through the massive roll of food was, “Wow, these look a lot like yours.” Music to a home cook’s ears!

Unlike most processed burritos, Red’s has tons of real veggies, whole brown rice, beans, and meat. I did make two compromises eating them: white flour and canola oil. But here’s the thing – I’ve found it almost impossible to find regular or whole wheat tortillas without trans fat, parabens, or interesterified oils, an evil likely as bad or worse than trans fats. In comparison, the tiny amount of canola oil is an acceptable compromise for me. I would even buy these and pour them OUT of the tortilla onto salad, and then have zero compromise!

The meat and spices are incredibly tasty, and one more huge thing sets Red’s apart from the processed food world: The meat is antibiotic and hormone free, there are no GMOs, and the cheese is rBGH free. Most companies don’t even know what those terms mean.

You can find Red’s in many retail stores (store locator here).

**Coupon code: Red’s gives away freebies quite often on their Facebook page.

12 oz. Bag of Ivory Coast Choffy

sponsored by Amylee of Inspired Birth and Familiesimage
$15

From the company:

Choffy is made from 100% premium cacao (cocoa), beans roasted and ground to create a rich drink that provides long-lasting energy and whole-body wellness. Not only does Choffy taste good, it’s really good for you. It contains no sugar, dairy, or chemicals; in fact, all it contains is premium cacao and many naturally occurring, good-for-you properties. (Read more HERE.)

Unlike coffee, Choffy supplies you with long-lasting energy throughout the day without the crash, jitters, or other negative effects of caffeine. Which means you can drink as much as you want, whenever you want. So if you wake up craving a cup of Choffy, it’s only because it tastes so good!

From Katie:

Brewed chocolate.

Who wouldn’t look forward to trying it?!

The first thing you’ll love upon opening a bag is the rich, chocolatey smell. I could just sit and inhale the grounds…but I digress.

We found that Choffy is less intense than coffee (but are still wondering if we brewed it incorrectly) and less creamy than hot chocolate. I think I was expecting a super rich, bitter, hot chocolate, but it’s more like a chocolate tea than anything else. We added a splash of milk and drops of vanilla or English Toffee stevia, and my husband and in-laws, who got to try just a taste one evening, all really enjoyed it.

I received a package with special cups to “brew” the Choffy, and I don’t love that they’re disposable, but I don’t have a French press coffee maker. I realized after seeing how it works that it’s exactly like loose leaf tea, only you need a lot more Choffy grounds than tea leaves. I used my tea steeping cup for subsequent batches and loved it. (You’ll be getting a regular bag, no disposable cups.)

Here are the cool things about Choffy:

  • You can use the grounds more than once. I actually got about 4 batches from one set of grounds! Use them until they don’t smell like chocolate anymore.
  • It has more antioxidants than a serving of blueberries.
  • It’s a hot drink that has to fall within the boundaries of real food.
  • You don’t have to add sweetener, but you can.
  • You don’t have to add milk, but you can.
  • from Amylee: Choffy grounds can be composted, used in body products (scrubs), and I use mine to clean my cast iron skillet and stuck on gunk in my crockpot, as well as my stainless steel sink.
  • The best part, in my opinion (other than, of course, the fact that you’re drinking chocolate!) is that you can even eat the grounds after you’ve brewed the heck out of them. Amylee has recipes on her Facebook page using the grounds, both fresh and post-brewing. I threw some into Popeye bars I was making yesterday (from Healthy Snacks to Go) and they were great. I’d toss them into any bar, any time. Winking smile

This morning, I boiled milk and brewed the Choffy directly there. That was a good idea. Winking smile

How the Berkey works.

From Katie:

You may have seen my Berkey review recently, which shows how totally thrilled we are with our big Berkey. This little water bottle is great for on the go water filtration, and I understand you could even use it to drink water out of a lake or river, totally purified. {Wow.}

I liked the bendy straw for when I was mired in first trimester ickies and wanted to drink as soon as I woke up – it lived on my nightstand and I could drink lying down! If filtered water is important to you, you’ll love the versatility of being able to filter anybody’s water, anywhere you are.

lilla rose H1-2048 Parade of Color Hair Band

From Katie:

LillaRose sidebar ad 150x150px bI do love the femininity of the flexiclip, which I’ve been using since fall, over my standard ponytail or claw.

Advantages:

  • one piece – you can’t lose the “stick” part
  • when it fits, it stays in really well (french twist works for me)
  • can lean back when it’s in and not hurt your head (like a claw clip does)
  • super, duper cute
  • quick to put in and out

Disadvantages:

  • have to get the right size for your style – my size small slips out a bit on a ponytail or a half-up ‘do (but you can cinch it up with one hand, important for mamas!). I guess I’d need an x-small for those styles and the small for twist-up or French twist.
  • took me some practice to figure out how to get the French twist style to look right – the trick is to grab the hair on the outside and not try to encase the entire twist, if that makes any sense at all! There are helpful videos on the site…
