How We Use Our Lavender Roll-On from MadeOn

Made On Lavender Roll on

Let’s talk about some of Murphy’s Laws of parenting.

Doesn’t it feel like the constipated baby always blows out when you’re one minute late to leave for church already, the naps get fought when you scheduled a phone call during that time because you knew the toddler would be tired, and the healthiest kids get sick only when their parents are trying to get away for an overnight?

My mom was sweet enough to offer to keep the kids overnight last month so my husband and I could get away for 24 hours for our 13th wedding anniversary, and although we were nervous about the nursing toddler at bedtime, we were pretty sure everyone would do just fine.

When my mom called my cell phone, I didn’t have a great feeling about it since we’d already checked in to make sure things were going smoothly.

She told us that our daughter had gotten a little but very itchy rash on her shoulder and lower back that morning, and that she was a little concerned only because it had then spread to her back and had a very strange look to it – a mostly clear/white center with a red outline that was enlarging rapidly. Like this:

We talked through possibilities for ticks/Lyme (not the right presentation), swimmer’s itch (all the kids went swimming in the same places, so unlikely), and she assured me that there was no fever, irritability, lack of appetite, etc. I decided that if we were there, we would “wait and see” too, so we did, but we also began the hour-and-a-half drive home.

When we arrived and it was all over her back I recoiled in visible surprise, and we decided to rush to town to get to the walk-in clinic before it closed in 10 minutes!

The end of the story (spoiler alert) is that it moved around her body for about 3 days, then went away, never to be seen again. We did use a conventional cream from the pharmacy sparingly and once, Children’s Benadryl at night when it itched so badly it woke her up. I felt like a fish out of water because I wasn’t at home with all my books, herbs and essential oils to help me through it. Sad smile

One thing I love about my mom, though, is that she’s on this natural journey right along with me, and she had already applied a diluted lavender oil to the rash before we even arrived. The PA at the med center even confirmed that lavender or tea tree oil would be helpful, which was so neat to hear from a “normal” medical professional!

Mom had that lavender oil because she had recently ordered from MadeOn Hard Lotion, a favorite shop for both of us. When I had made an order the previous week for a bunch of refill hard lotion bars (and threw in a body brush as a little birthday gift to myself!), Renee asked if I wanted to try the lavender roll-on.

Of course I did, and we’ve used it on warts, candida rash, sunburns, and zits so far. It’s jojoba oil with lavendula angustifolia essential oil and smells and feels SO great. But lavender is more than just a pretty smell.

Can’t I Just DIY That Lavender Roll-On Bottle?

You bet. It’s not hard to mix up an essential oil and a carrier oil, but honestly, it’s more effort to source the roller bottles and figure it all out for me than it is to just add this my order as a way to try it out. I am constantly wasting oils because I’ll dilute some in a little bowl and then have to pitch it after a day or so. This lavender roll-on is just too convenient!

I know kid-safe oils are important to many of you, and they are to me, too (did you see I updated my natural bug spray review with that qualification?? Game changer.). Lavender is an extremely safe essential oil, fine for even very little children and pregnant women.

I know you’ll love the hard lotion bars and the roll-on (and don’t be afraid to think ahead and stock up on Christmas gifts – these make superb teacher gifts, stocking stuffers and Secret Santa goodies).

Do you know how to properly dilute essential oils?

Katie here, popping in to tell you how important it is to be sure you’re diluting those essential oils properly. Sure, you know not to use EOs straight (neat). But do you know the 1-2-3 math so it’s not too strong or weak? Print this chart to keep with your oils so you never have to do math in the middle of the night when your LO is congested: You can read more about why it’s so important to dilute essential oils here, and I know the little chart will be helpful!
