Is Thrive Market Worth It? My Honest Review + What I Buy There

I’ll be honest: when we restarted our Thrive Market membership, it was partly because of Leah.

She’s setting protein goals for herself and really learning to fuel her body well for the workouts she’s undertaking. This is the same girl who used to restrict food and say she got full so fast as an excuse, so it has been really beautiful to watch her relationship with food change.

Learning she was dairy-sensitive in fifth grade meant cutting out cheese, yogurt, and ice cream — a well-loved food group — and that had some major impacts on her relationship with food.

These days my favorite thing is to see her smile and really enjoy eating again.

So when she bit into a dairy-free chocolate I found at Thrive Market and her face glowed, I was smitten.

“These taste just like a Milky Way,” she sighed. “I haven’t had anything chocolate that I’ve enjoyed since fifth grade.”

Mom win. ❤️

That’s the moment when Thrive Market officially landed on my must-order list.

What Thrive Market Is (and Why It Works)

Think of Thrive Market like a warehouse club for healthy food. It’s an online members-only store where you can buy organic foods, clean-ingredient snacks, and better-for-you household products at discounted prices.

Because it’s members-only, brands are willing to offer lower pricing that isn’t displayed publicly across the internet.

The membership is about $5 a month, and Thrive guarantees that you’ll save at least the cost of your membership each year — or they’ll refund the difference. Most people save far more than that.

Members save an average of about $40 per order, and many people earn back the cost of membership in just a couple orders.

Plus, you can try it risk-free for 30 days!

Why I Keep Ordering from Thrive Market

There are a few reasons Thrive Market has become a regular stop for our family.

  1. They make special diets so much easier. Leah and I were blown away by the search feature the first time we used it. We were able to filter for high protein, dairy-free, and no refined sugar all at the same time — which is not easy to do at a normal grocery store. You can sort products by all kinds of dietary needs:
  • gluten-free
  • dairy-free
  • paleo
  • keto
  • high protein
  • dye-free
  • and 90 more!

Readers often tell me this is one of their favorite features too. Instead of reading every ingredient label yourself, Thrive Market already filters out thousands of ingredients and brands that don’t meet their standards. That means less time reading tiny labels and more time actually getting food on the table.

PLUS Thrive Market doesn’t hide ingredients – they’re in plain text on every single product, quickly searchable.

  1. They carry hard-to-find healthy foods. Thrive Market is great for items that are difficult to find locally. I often order things like:
  • specialty gluten-free pasta
  • grain-free snacks
  • naturally sweetened treats
  • better-for-you beverages
  • dye-free holiday treats
  • pantry staples like spices and baking ingredients

It’s also a fun place to discover products you might not see at a regular grocery store.

  1. One of the biggest reasons I shop Thrive Market is simply trust. They rigorously vet the brands and ingredients they carry, which means I don’t have to spend nearly as long reading labels and ingredient lists. That alone saves me time and brain space.

What I Buy at Thrive Market

Our Thrive Market orders are a mix of practical pantry items and fun finds.

Some things we’ve ordered recently include:

Pantry Staples

  • spice jar refills, King Arthur bread flour
  • gluten-free pasta (Jovial is our favorite brand and I stock up when it goes on 25% off!!)
  • coconut aminos (a gluten-free soy sauce alternative)
  • baking ingredients like chocolate chips or vanilla (Leah just tried some chocolate chips with NO dairy AND no sugar, and she’s thrilled again!)
  • tea and pantry basics
  • black rice and coconut sugar, hard to find in “normal” stores!

Snacks and Treats

  • naturally sweetened candy bars
  • dairy-free chocolates
  • avocado oil potato chips (the store brand is addictive, beware)
  • grain-free granola and Lovebird cereal (Seven Sundays is a great brand and Thrive’s store brand is yummy!)
  • chickpea snacks
  • better-for-you snack bars

Quick Meals and Mixes

  • Jovial brand chickpea pasta mac and cheese
  • Simply Mills protein pancake and waffle mix
  • gluten-free baking mixes (cuz even if your kids know how to cook, that doesn’t mean you don’t want an easy button here and there!)

Sauces and Condiments

  • Primal Kitchen sauces and dressings (we got through a ton of the Avocado Lime one!)
  • dairy-free “queso” sauce for Mexican night
  • Thrive Market almond butter is good; Gabe’s ultimate fav is Barney brand

Non-Toxic Cleaning & Personal Supplies

  • Thrive’s in-house “Rosey” brand doesn’t include the junk and is very affordable. The toilet bowl cleaner is all we use at the Kimball house!
  • “Everyone” 3-in-1 soap, shampoo, and body wash is EASY in a house with boys!
  • I do NOT recommend the feminine supplies though – I tried every one and no dice!

Fun Finds

  • alcohol-free “adult beverages”
  • naturally colored seasonal treats (candy canes, jelly beans)

Sometimes we order things simply because we’re curious and want to do side-by-side comparisons between brands!

How to Save Money at Thrive Market

If you’re buying things like gluten-free products, dairy-free treats, or grain-free snacks, Thrive Market can be especially helpful. Many of those items are either hard to find locally or extremely expensive in regular grocery stores. I’ve also found a lot of clean-ingredient products there that I simply can’t find nearby.

Another way Thrive Market saves me money is simply by saving time and gas. Instead of visiting multiple stores trying to track down one specialty item, I can usually find it on Thrive. And sometimes I even discover new favorite foods along the way.

They run a lot of sales on certain products, so we try only to grab the products with extra savings.

They also guarantee that you’ll save at least the cost of your membership over the year — or they’ll credit you the difference.

Note that although you can cancel your annual membership at any time easily, you only get a refund of any kind in that first 30-day window.

How much do people usually save?

Thrive Market reports that members save an average of about $40 per order. Many people earn back their membership cost in just a couple orders, and after that the savings are just a bonus.

Between member pricing, special promotions, and free gifts that sometimes come with orders, the savings can add up quickly.

One member of the Raising Healthy Families community asked me to check some prices on items she usually buys locally, and TM beat her normal options on every single one, sometimes by a generous margin!

Is Thrive Market personalized for my diet?

Yes, and that’s one of the best parts. Thrive Market lets you customize your store experience based on your dietary needs and ingredient preferences.

There are 90+ diet and lifestyle filters, and you can even choose ingredients you want to avoid so the store automatically filters them out. It makes shopping much simpler if you’re trying to eat clean or manage dietary restrictions!
