Want to Cloth Diaper? KS Can Help With This $380 Prize Package! {GIVEAWAY-NOW CLOSED}

May 2nd, 2012 · 54 Comments · What to Buy

I know, I know…literally my first piece of cloth diapering advice as I embarked on this cloth diaper review/rookie/how-to series was “don’t get 25 different kinds of cloth diapers; it’s too complicated.”

But.

If they came to your house for free…I bet you’d figure it out! Winking smile

I can’t wait to offer this prize to some lucky mama to get another baby’s buns in cloth!

I’ve been working through my 25 kinds of cloth diapers and have already touched on the advantages and disadvantages of various cloth diapering styles overall, plus individual reviews of diapers in these categories:

I’ve asked some of my favorites if they’d share with you, too, so without anymore jibber jabber, let’s check out the prize package:

  • 3 One Size Kawaii pocket diapers + $25 gift certificate
  • Econobum One-Size Diaper
  • Wetbag, fleece fitted diaper and cover from Kissaluvs
  • Sprout Change Starter Kit
  • Tuck and Go cover and 3 inserts from Monkey Doodlez
  • Organic Bamboo Velour fitted from Wooldins
  • Thirsties Duo pocket diaper and 2 hemp inserts
  • Rumparooz One-Size Cloth Diaper and a Changing Diapers Book: The Hip Mom’s Guide To Modern Cloth Diapering
  • $20 gift certificate to Abby’s Lane
  • Moo Champ Pocket Diaper and adapt-a-snap
  • Mother Ease All in One Cloth Diaper
  • Teething Ring Necklace with Heart shaped Hematite Pendant
  • $30 gift certificate, good for a nursing bracelet or necklace, or 2 packages of Rockin Green detergent from Organic Mamas

kawaii green baby pocket diaper (3) (475x356)
3 One Size Kawaii pocket diapers + $25 gift certificate

sponsored by Jack be Natural
$66.85 value

From the company:

Multiple tummy cross over snaps to fit smaller waist, hip snap buttons help prevent wing drooping, three rows of rise snap buttons transform the diapers from newborn through potty, added front panel – avoid leaking for babies sleeping on their tummy, wider back pocket with flap – easy to stuff and remove inserts, 30% more moisture absorption, high fiber density thus it’s heavier.

From Katie:

Watch for the review on this diaper Friday, but I’ll tell you a little secret: I really liked the Kawaii Green Baby, and as pocket diapers go, it’s one of the only ones I’d trust at night! It’s so soft, has super thin, eco-friendly bamboo inserts that hold a TON, and I even forgive it for having 3 snaps (my least favorite closure) because the rest does so well. If I won this package, I’d use my $25 to upgrade to the Green Baby for a few bucks each…

Econobum One-Size Diaper

sponsored by Mom4Life
$9.95 value

From the company: The Econobum cloth diaper works for every budget! The one-size cover and prefold adjusts to grow along with your little one.  It has a waterproof shell (no extra cover needed), adjustable snaps, one size design and includes a prefold.

From Katie: Be sure to check out my review of the Econobum diaper right HERE. For ten bucks for a cover and prefold diaper, this is the most economical diapering system I reviewed, and it works. Econobum even lasted through the night (with a little extra stuffing). The only downfall? Poo leaks through the thin cover if it gets to the leg seams. It still got fewer outfits wet/stained than disposables. For a budget, I highly recommend this system.

**Coupon code: 10% off with the code kitchen, valid through July 15, 2012

kissaluvs fitted cloth diaper (4) (475x356)
Wetbag, fleece fitted diaper and cover

sponsored by Kissaluvs
$43.85 value

From the company:

Beautifully textured fabrics and elastic at leg and back openings to contain messes and floods, fabric options including unbleached cotton fleece as well as gorgeous colors, stretchy elastic and fabrics for a snug fit without binding, sturdy polyacetal resin snaps… easy access for parents, not so easy for curious toddlers, uniquely spaced adjustable wing snaps … snap consecutively or over three snaps depending on your baby’s build, overlapping wings on the M/L size to fit even thin babies, unique fit with low-rise front and full coverage in back, absorbent microfiber soakers sewn in the diapers, simplicity of design, especially popular with dads and babysitters!

From Katie: This diaper is no joke. Nothing will come out of it, and the double gusseted cover is fantastic! When John was constantly soaked every morning, I poked out on the Internet to find a nighttime solution, and what a silver lining to wet sheets! I’m thrilled that I discovered the “fitted diaper” category, and I can guarantee you’ll love this fitted cotton fleece. Kissaluvs is also an amazing brand, dedicated to sourcing sustainable materials and US made/grown as much as possible (almost 100%). Kissaluvs is carried by many small retailers online, including Nurtured Family and Jillian’s Drawers.

Sprout Change Starter Kit

(winners choice of color shell)
sponsored by The Willow Store
$33.75 value

From the company:

One-size, custom fit: fits 5-40+ lbs, innovative snap positions anyone can figure out (daycare friendly!), Breathable shell keeps baby rash free, unbeatable leakproof protection, seamless gussets for mess-free cleanups, fewer shells means less cost for you without compromising on quality, unique reversible shell has two colors in one, if you prefer side closing or front closing diapers like disposables – you get both, soft fabrics touch baby, not plastic, double layers of pul make our diapers last years!

From Katie: Willow’s Sprout Change is definitely one of my favs, for its nice fabric, easy fitting, versatility, and amazingly thin and effective insert. Be sure to check out the full review HERE. Brownie points to Willow for its ardent seeking of sustainability.

One Tuck and Go cover and 3 inserts

sponsored by Monkey Doodlez
$40.00 value

From the company:

Simply Tuck the pad into the cover and Go! No Stuffing! No Snaps! No Hassles! The diaper fastens just like an AIO or disposable. The front and back of the cover as well as the elastic at the leg casings are lined with soft microfleece to ensure optimum comfort and the edges of the tuck zones are gently gathered to keep everything in place. This unique design creates a natural barrier to moisture for unsurpassed leak protection. With the clever design of the tuck zones, most messes are contained on the pad so the cover can often be reused. The pad is designed to easily and securely tuck into the cover, yet falls out easily by simply turning the cover over once soiled.  Never touch a dirty soaker again!

From Katie: Perhaps you’re figuring out that I don’t like to touch the poo. Tuck and Go from Monkey Doodlez is a great solution for both putting on, because it stays together in the pile of diapers, and taking off, because there’s nothing to take apart before washing. You also can reuse the cover, which is so economical. Monkey Doodlez is a marvelous small, WAHM based company, and all their diapers are sewn in homes as well, not factories. The only thing I’d change is the scratchy Velcro on the very front – a seam ripper could take care of it after the tiny baby phase. Check out my full review HERE.

**Coupon code: stew15, valid for 15% off our Tuck and Go Covers and Inserts (regular price) (exp May 10).

In addition, we have some great deals on “seconds” in our clearance section. The only issue with the covers is they weren’t snapped to be two-size, but for $10 a cover, they are otherwise perfect! Please note the code does not apply to clearance items. We also offer $7 shipping within continental North America on orders over $25 and FREE shipping on orders over $100.

wooldins fitted cloth diaper (2)
Natural Colored Organic Bamboo Velour fitted Diaper

sponsored by Wooldins
$28 value

From the company:

This fitted is truly a one size fits all! From about 10-35lbs and more convenient when you have multiple children in diapers. Diaper feature no snaps that will touch babies belly. Even the snaps are certified by oko-tex to be free of any harmful substance such as lead and phalates. As you baby grows there will gradually be less fabric that is folded over the snaps. Soon enough they will be wearing them full size. Diaper body consists of 4 layers: *outside layer is 100% cotton knit, inside layer is super soft bamboo velour, sandwiched layer is bamboo fleece. Extra snaps to prevent wing droop. Lay in soaker consists of 3 layers: two layers of bamboo fleece, one layer of bamboo velour. Easy: fold soaker in half, lay in diaper, snap together! This diaper is a must for nighttime diapering and blow-outs are easily contained because the diaper is larger in the bum area than most.

From Katie: I feel the same way about this diaper as I do about the Kissaluvs above. {heart} The bamboo velour may even have a leg up, because it’s so snuggly soft. Amazing. The seamstress behind Wooldins is a local friend, and when Leah (baby no. 2 in our family) was 8 mos. old, I was considering switching to cloth. I got scared off by over $25 for one diaper, but now I’m kicking myself! If you live in Grand Rapids, MI, you can find Wooldins at a few local stores and avoid paying shipping, always a bonus. Be sure to have a cover (like Kissaluvs Marvel or Econobums) to go with a fitted. Full review right HERE.

thirstie duo cloth diaper (3) (475x356)
Thirsties Duo and 2 hemp inserts

sponsored by Thirsties
$18.50 value

From the company:

A two-piece diapering system combining an absorbent insert and waterproof sleeve diaper, seven thirsty absorbent layers, microfleece liner provides wetness protection and stain resistance, grows with your baby so you only need two sizes from birth to potty, easy stuffing and one-step cleaning, pliable, breathable ultra-comfortable waterproof exterior.

From Katie: Thirsties is one of the only pockets I’ll put on John at night, although I usually triple stuff until he’s puffy with cloth! Winking smile The hemp doublers are my favorites – I throw them in as extra stuffing with every diaper I’ve got if we’re going to be out for a long time or at night. They take a while to dry, but they’re mighty effective. Thirsties double gussets and two openings to stuff the pockets are fantastic features as well.  Pocket diaper reviews coming Friday…

Rumparooz One-Size Cloth Diaper and Changing Diapers Book: The Hip Mom’s Guide To Modern Cloth Diapering

sponsored by Kelly Wels
$41.45 value

From the company:

This giveaway includes a copy of the Changing Diapers Book by Kelly Wels. Endorsed by Peggy O’Mara; Editor of Mothering.com “Packed with practical tips and helpful information, Changing Diapers is a must for the first-time cloth diaper user. Extensive tips include how to travel with cloth, how to clean cloth diapers, and what to do if you have twins. Includes clear descriptions of the types of cloth diapers and comprehensive resources on where to find them. Accessible and funny, Changing Diapers makes cloth look as easy as it really is.”

The giveaway also includes a Rumparooz One-Size Cloth Diaper. The Award Winning Rump•a•rooz® (Rumparooz) One Size Cloth Pocket Diaper is a revolutionary change to the face of reusable and cloth diapering today! Designed with simplicity, Rumparooz are as easy to use as a disposable diaper, but without all the chemicals, waste and high cost.

From Katie: I usually wouldn’t include a product in a giveaway that I hadn’t reviewed, but I’ll make an exception for diapers, since what I love, others might despise and vice versa, anyway. Changing Diapers the book is a fun read and will really inspire you that it’s possible to do cloth, from the stay-at-home dads who chose to CD to the mothers of multiples who manage it. I wanted a little more “meat” personally, since a few questions I had about diaper creams and such were unanswered in the text, but I think the winner will enjoy it overall.

Moo Champ Pocket Diaper and Adapt-a-Snap

sponsored by GoGreen Diapers
$15.95 value

From the company:

4 sizes in one! Our unique configuration of adjustable rise and waist snaps provides TRUE birth-to-potty fit. Never un-stuff a dirty diaper again! Inserts self-agitate out in the wash cycle. Dual Gussets™ Technology provides unbeatable leak protection. Soft, stay-dry sueded lining gently shields your baby from moisture. Waterproof diaper outer keeps diaper trim and fashion-forward!

From Katie: The Go Green Champ 2.0 pocket diaper is definitely one of the roomiest, which means it really is birth-to-potty, so cool. The insert snaps in, too, and it really does come out of the pocket in the wash. GoGreen is pending for nighttime – I’ll let you know after a few more tests how it goes! The adapt-a-snap is a nifty system to turn any snap diaper into a Velcro closure, if you decide snaps just aren’t for you or take too long in the middle of the night, perhaps. It works fairly well on babies but pulled too tightly and opened on my 3yo.

Mother Ease All in One Cloth Diaper

sponsored by Thanks Mama
$15.95-$17.95 value

From the company:

Just as handy as any disposable and much more leakproof, the Mother ease All In One cloth diapers are highly breathable with the same side venting and adjustable snap enclosures as the Air Flow™ Snap Cover. Elastic all around gives the baby a comfortable, “no restriction” stretchy fit. The inner fabric is made of knit cotton terry. The outer waterproof fabric is the same as Mother Ease uses in their cloth diaper covers, 100% polyester bonded to a durable urethane. This is an especially wonderful cloth diaper for those days when very quick diaper changes are essential. Mother Ease manufacturers all their cloth diapers and cloth diaper covers from start to finish in their factory in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada. This is the only way high quality standards can be controlled and enforced.

From Katie: I have been uber-impressed by this diaper. It is the only one that truly deserves the term “bulletproof” for us. My husband and I don’t love the side snaps as they’re a bit tight for clumsy or large fingers, but I’ll forgive Mother Ease that one since I don’t have to change John’s pajamas every morning. Adding the extra insert from Sugar Peas makes all the difference in the world, too; it’s a really tough, absorbent liner. See the all-in-one reviews for more.

Nursing Necklace with Heart Shaped Hematite Pendant
Teething Ring Necklace with Heart shaped Hematite Pendant

sponsored by My lil Market
$14 value

From the company:

The necklace is made of 2 1/2 inch maple teething ring and a heart shaped Hematite Pendant. The 2 mm satin cord is extremely durable. The necklace is adjustable up to 28 inches with a Sliding Knot. It is made for baby wearing moms, caregivers, or anyone who cares for young ones with busy hands.

From Katie: I didn’t understand how cool this idea of a necklace baby can play with really is until John hit 6 months and started putting everything in his mouth. If I forgot a toy or was in a store or chatting with someone and he was in the sling, he’d grab this necklace and be totally content gnawing on it. LOVE. I told everyone who would listen, “This is my new favorite parenting tool.” And I meant it. You really want one of these, whether you’re nursing or not!

From Katie: Shannon is a real life friend of mine, and her stuff is just so cute. I reviewed the nursing bracelet last fall, and although I kept forgetting to use it, I think it would have been a lifesaver when I had my first and wasn’t doing all that well with the nursing relationship OR if I had multiples, for sure. It’s also handy for keeping track of medication or water intake. I do use Rockin’ Green detergent on my cloth diapers, and I’ve been very happy with the results so far, most of the time.
