Take a “Staycation” Anywhere in the United States! 85 Bloggers Have you Covered…

May 24th, 2011 · 9 Comments · Uncategorized

Just stay home. But have fun doing it!

It may feel like the easy way out, or that perhaps your kids will “miss out” on something if you don’t take a huge vacation this summer, but I assure you, once you start reading the gems these bloggers have discovered in their hometowns, you’ll be itching to explore your own.

A “Staycation” is an opportunity to embrace your local culture, find new things to do close to home, and enjoy yourselves as a family without the stress and time it takes to pack, unpack, and travel.

Scan the list below (yes, really, 85 options!) to find somewhere close to where you live, or perhaps where you know you want to visit sometime soon. I’m playing travel agent today, so enjoy your tour of America and be inspired to play and learn in your community this summer.

I will definitely bookmark this. My husband travels around the country to smaller cities, and we occasionally join him and need to find kid-friendly (and cheap) things to do.

The link that brought me to this page said all 50 states, but there aren’t listings for Idaho (where I am!) or Nevada or Hawaii. :(

    Katie Reply:

Aw, shoot! I never checked to see if they were ALL covered, just sort of assumed. Bummer! Time to start a blog and share what you know… ;) Katie

Ah well. I have a blog, but I’ve lost the motivation to update it. So I don’t post the link anymore. :)

At least there are lots of other ideas in case we travel! Thanks for posting!

The #1 “staycation” for Michiganders is our native, NE lower peninsula, if you ask me. Safe, beautiful, not crowded with tourists, inexpensive lodging.

    Katie Reply:

Totally true, but still costs $50-100 in gas money nowadays to get up there from GR. :( We’ll be heading up 3 of the next 4 weeks anyway! :) Katie

Thank you so much for this Katie!!!!! I am saving bookmarking this resource and will be referring to it quite often.

I will of course be boomarking the GR specific blog post too!!

It gives me some ideas for primal meetups. You should join the group by the way… ;)

Welcome! Meet Katie.

I embrace butter. I make homemade yogurt. I eat traditional real food – plants and animals that God created, not products of plants where food scientists work. Here at Kitchen Stewardship, I share how I strive to be a good steward of my family's nutrition, the environment, and our budget, all without spending every second in the kitchen.
