Editor’s Pick
Wardeh @ Such Treasures presents A Retro Apron posted at Such Treasures. She says, “I took a ready-to-wear retro apron, created a pattern from it, and then sewed it up for my friend who works at a bakery.”
This post has incredible step-by-step instructions and photos to hold your hand through the whole process. It makes me want to get out my sewing machine…if only to mend the pillows and bag in my “to sew someday” pile! What a cute, successful project!
Sewing and Crafts
Marla Walters presents Sew Easy to Save posted at Parenting Squad. A quick little encouragement for the not-so-sure-about-sewing crowd.
Jen S presents Happy Little Homemaker » Thankfulness Tree posted
at Happy Little Homemaker. This looks like a beautiful project for posterity, and fairly simple to put together.
John Mastro presents How to Make an Authentic Harry Potter Wand posted at John Mastro.net. John, clearly an HP fan like myself, quips: “Have you ever wanted to be a wizard like Harry Potter? Magic-ing open doors and levitating your friends, to engaging in fierce wizard duels with Death Eaters? Of course you have! Well, every good wizard worth his salt has to have a proper magic wand. You won’t need to fork over 30-40 galleons or labor away with sophisticated equipment to get one either. It’s very easy to hand carve and craft your very own authentic looking wand out of realistic materials, a few simple woodworking skills, and only spend between $5 – $10!”
Cooking and Baking
Amanda Louden presents Almond Butter Cookies and Weekly Dinners posted at Daily Diner. She says, “These were so easy, my five year old practically made them on his own…which is a great way to get the kids into the kitchen. AND they are so.very.tasty.” Um. Yeah. Is anyone else salivating on the keyboard looking at that photo! Wait until you read the recipe!
The Homemaking Helper presents Dinner Rolls posted at The Homemaking Helper. “They are easy and yummy dinner rolls that everyone will rave about.”
Mama Bear presents Super Epic Rainbow Cake posted at Gotta Little Space. You’ll be rolling on the ground reading about poor Mama Bear’s triumph’s and tragedies with this (so incredible!) birthday cake and frosting. Look at those colors!
Melissa Hedding presents Finds For Families: Homemade Whole Grain Baby Cereal posted at Finds For Families. She says, ” Lots of people are making their own fruit and veggie purees for their babies these days. You can make your own baby cereal too.” Way better than white rice flakes in a box!
Krisdyn presents My Personal Bread Recipe posted at The Simply Perfect Life. She says, “This is the best bread recipe ever! Easy to make and tastes delicious!” Krisdyn has some options for different sweeteners and oils that make the recipe very versatile.
Kristia presents Make It Yourself Monday – Turkey and Veggie Sloppy Joes posted at Family Balance Sheet. A healthy, kid-friendly option with a recipe going back to childhood memories.
Our host site Make it from Scratch presents Pineapple Salsa->Sweet & Spicy posted at Make It From Scratch. What to do when you don’t have enough to can? Make up something new!
VH presents Tasty fig morsels posted at Funny about Money. Add a little bacon to a frugal find at Cosco and you’ve got a great meal.
Liss presents Pork Rice Paper Rolls posted at Frills in the Hills. From down under, Liss explains, “Lunch, summer dinner or canape, these are delicious and healthy – good for lunchboxes too!” She makes it look like a sushi bar on her counter. Too cute!
John Mastro presents Dads Classic Cheeseburger Macaroni posted at John Mastro.net. John explains his MFS goodness: “An absolute classic! Not to mention a big favorite around our house. It’s an awesome tasting and super easy to make dish which only takes about 20 minutes! But the best thing about it is that it’s made from simple, real ingredients…not from a box. Enjoy on a busy evening, or Saturday home with the kids. Make some for a potluck, or Sunday’s big game.”
Joanna presents Banana Banana Bread posted at One Krusty Mama. The basics, but a first-time trial for Joanna.
My entry is a Homemade Asian Toasted Sesame Salad Dressing that I whipped up as a reverse engineered version of Kraft’s. It’s pretty darn good, if I may say so myself!
Gardening, DIY Home, ETC.
Wren Caulfield presents End of the Season Garden Wrap-Up posted at True Adventures in Money Hacking.
H2F presents How to Fix a Garbage Disposal that Won’t Turn On and Won’t Make Noise posted at How To Fix.
Marjorie Morgan presents A little bit of equipment envy posted at GO! Girls Outdoors. Marjorie laments that this project is “an example of where making stuff yourself doesn’t always quite work out the way you hope…” You have to visit this one to help me find the words to describe Marjorie’s experiments!
